On the bright side, he has almost no health so it doesn't take long to beat him regardless of what you're using. But if you have several nail upgrades and a good charm combo you can take him down quickly.

The 2nd one is entirely optional, and is almost directly next to a useable bench.

It's not optional for 100% completion.

but it's nice to get that Mask part to gain more health

Crystal guardian frustrated the ♥♥♥♥ out of me. His patterns and everything looked easy enough, but for some reason I kept messing up the timing on his hand laser.

And I didn't know about the bench at the bottom of the mine, so I had to run back to fight him from the Crossroads stag station a few times.
