Can't get back into City of Tears
I left before beating the boss, and can't get back in through the way I first came in. The entrance is blocked.

You don't need to come back, you will be able later on the game but now just focus on the City.

Yeah, unfortunately that is a one way one use door. The easiest to reach is probably the elevator frim the Resting Grounds. Which way did you leave the City?

you can walljump near the door to get through a hidden path in

I honestly don't remember how I got out.

If you mean the door the City Crest opens then I believe you need to open that path from the other side before you can walljump in.

Then unless I am forgetting something, you will have to wait until you can access the East end of the City of Tears, as I believe the entrances to the Western part have to be opened from the City side.
  • If you took the Northwestern elevator out then you can get back in from the Forgotten Crossroads (must be activated from the City first).
  • If you used a Simple Key to access the Royal Waterways and went all the way left then there may have been a hidden door into the Fungal Wastes that you can use to get back in (both the hidden door and the simple key need to be used from the City end).
  • If you got out some other way I can’t think of then you have 2 1 option: go through Crystal Peak to the Resting Grounds and take the elevator there( now that I think about it that may require the ability from the City). You need to go through Deepnest to get the Tram Pass and take the one there East. The City should be accessible from there.
There may be other ways, I haven’t played in a while and don’t remember any others, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t there.

I now realize this thread was kind of useless because I now remember coming up the elevator. I can just go down the same way. Thanks anyway.

I'm sorry for wasting your time.

No worries, good luck with the rest of the game.

Thanks. I'm really enjoying the game. I've done pretty much everything there was to be done without Desolate Dive , and beat the Soul Master as soon as I got back to the City. It was surprisingly easy. Now on to beat the Broken Vessel and get the monarch wings

So you took the Fungal Waste entrance into the west side of the city? The Fungal Waste entrance closes after you pass through it, but you can re-open that path later.
Once you get the Desolate Dive spell, approach the gate from the city, then use Mantis Claw to climb over. There should be a crumbling floor up there. Using the spell on it will reconnect the City to the Wastes.

You can also find an elevator shaft in the northwest area of the city, paying the toll will open a path between the City and the Crossroads.

The east section of the City is home to the wealthy nobles, and it is locked off from the rest of the City. In order to access it, you must either enter from Kindom's Edge(east), or the Resting Grounds(northeast), though you can alternatively go through the Royal Waterways(south).

Interestingly enough, only the Fungal Core and the White Palace absolutely require the Monarch Wings to access them. Though it is much more tedious to navigate areas without them.

Yeah, getting the Pale Ore from Crystal Peak in particular is a pain without them.

Actually I always go for the Pale Ore in Crystal Peak without Monarch Wings. I was mainly refering to navigating certain areas of Kingdom's Edge.
