Help... pLease
Ok so I need help, and I don't care about spoilers anymore. So I just visited hornet in the city of tears, I unlocked the waterways, and I also visited the temple of the black egg for good measure and I cant find anything else to do.

I have found the soul master boss, but he is so difficult that I feel generally unprepared for his fight.

help... please...

(Edit, I have the mantis claws, crystal heart, moth wing cloak, and a few other things, I hope that helps you help me)

The second phase is basically a no-heal moment.

Yeah, I don't think you can reliably heal in phase 2 without 1 or 2 specific charms (ie Quick Focus and/or Shape of Unn)
Hedrack Oct 4, 2017 @ 10:00pm
If you start phase 2 of Soul Master with soul you probably have time to heal 1-2 masks before he starts diving regardless of charms as there's a few seconds lull between hitting the ground and him diving. But once the phase starts you really can't heal without Quick Focus (you might be able to heal 1 mask when he stops diving without Quick Focus if you start healing right away as I remember being able to almost pull off a heal with those circumstances against the Soul Tyrant). Focus on dodging the fireballs as phase 2 can go as long as you need to slowly whittle him down (although he doesn't have much health if you upgraded your nail).

I also believe that after the first time, because of the scripted event that happens the first time only, once he goes to transition into phase 2, if you are quick you can stay up top aat one of the edges. The fight won't progress until you drop down, but you have as much time as you need to heal up and otherwise prepare yourself for phase 2.

I explore most of the game, collecting geo, ability, charms and pale ores after i get mantis claw, and you don't need to kill soul master right now. For casual like me, he nearly impossible to beat with just 1 nail upgrade and 6 health so i come back to beat him with 3 nail upgrade and 8 health or somethings lol

I would recommend you staying in the right corner. Skillfull wall jumps let you avoid the ground slam and also, it's the safe spot while he is charging (The attack where he levitates right above the ground).

You dont need to kill him right now; you can further explore the waterways, explore the lower part of the mantis village that will unlock a new zone for you to keep exploring ir go farm some geo and buy the lantern that used on a specific part of the crossroads will unlock you another new zone.

At this point the game opens up a lot and you have lots of different paths so you dont have to beat him yet.

This was pretty much the last boss I went and killed before ending the game.. Just never found him.. You definitely can come back later. Not many areas require his ability. (But it is required)
You don't want to heal during the 2nd phase(its pointless, as his attack during that phase are faster than the time it takes to heal). your best opportunity to heal during the Soul Master fight is when he does the orbital attack.

One option you have is to go to the room in Fog Canyon full of charged Lumaflies. Head left, until you reach a room with verdant foliage and flying moss bugs. Using Mantis Claw, go up and over to the left. There will be a door leading to a place called "the Overgrown Mound". After fighting some mosquitoes, you will find another Snail Shaman, who will give you a spell for attacking enemies above you.

And while you don't need Desolate Dive to progress through the Waterways, it is necessary to access a wide variety of shortcuts, charms, and other things. Not to mention that using this spell in combat gives you 'I'-frames(invincibility frames) and can hit enemies multiple times.

It’s necessary for 100% completion, sure, but I can’t think of anywhere you have to use it to progress. The only place I recall that it blocks progression is Crystal Peak, but you can use the lantern to get in there instead.

Hey thanks everyone for the help and tips, not two minutes ago I killed the soul master, and got my desolate dive.

It's needed to get the Quick Slash charm in Kingdom's Edge. The other way to get in that area is a breakable wall, but it's only breakable from the lower half which requires Desolate Dive.

That’s what I mean, Quick Slash isn’t required for anything other than 100% completion. There’s nowhere that Desolate Dive is required to progress towards the ending.
