Very wierd encounter in Deepnest

So, usually i don't like askign question on my first run during a game, but this one keeps to curious.
So, i just explored Deepnest and found Herra the Beast. Now, in the large room before you enter the Beast's Den, in the very west of the map, you can jump down, rewarding you with one soul-replenishing totem and a passage way back up. And this passage is where i just "met" something very wierd.
Going instead of directly upwards into that small dead-end with corpses lying around, some Masked, worm-like bug went out of the Wall. (Imagine GLaDOS with an -mask). In a reflex i hit it , and it hushed back into the wall it came from.
So... what was this? Did i ruined some quest line? Or was this a sneak peek on some future boss? Or, wtf?

Don't be afraid of spoilering as long as it is necessary, this thing just scared the heck out of me.

It's just an NPC you can talk to. Exiting the area and returning will let you speak with her

She doesn't bite.

That sounds like the Midwife. You can talk to her...

Leaving the room will allow her to respawn if you hit her. She's only there for Lore and you do have to talk to her a few times to get all of the lore from her. She also has more dialogue if you have Weaversong equiped.

Don't worry, it's just an npc and it'll pop out every time you get into that corner, as long as you don't hit it. If you do, you can leave the area and get back immediately to talk to it.
