Abyss question
Does the room directly left of the abyss have any purpose? It look like a pedistal with something to be on it/do but I've found no useful interaction with it after beating the game

It has a purpose, and if you look close enough you might figure it out. Or you just google it, that would be boring though xD

God its so hard to give hints about that room without just giving it away.

The imagery in that room is very important.
try dream nailing the pedistal.
You beat the Radiance without doing this first? Wow. Just.. wow.

It gives you the most powerful spell in the game (if you don't count Flukenest). It is extremely useful against the Radiance in particular. You'll see what I mean when you figure out how to activate the pedestal.

Ah, it's spell based, that would be why it eluded me. I really didn't use the spell upgrades that much, just the blast one in fights that gave me an excess of soul of ad spaws and such

Well the spell you get from the Abyss does up to 120 damage if you have the shaman stone.

I'll have to check, I'm still missing a few charms.....and that does sound like alot but the game doesn't really give me any context for that other than how many hits it takes to kill any given enemy. I'm assuming that's more than even a nail art charged fully upgraded nail move?
the Pure Nail does 21 damage.
Fragile Strength has a 1.5x dmg multiplier(does not stack with Nail Arts).
Fury of the Fallen has 1.75x dmg multiplier(doesn't stack w/ Nail Arts).
Longnail has a 1.15x range multiplier.
Mark of Pride has a 1.25x range multiplier.
Great Slash & Dash Slash have a 2.5x dmg multiplier.
Cyclone Slash normally hits 3 times, but can hit up to 7 times if you mash the attack button.
While Cyclone Slash may potentially yield upto 147 damage, it is very inconsistant due to the number of variables affecting it.

Wow....ok so without a completely stacked and situational loadout/plan it is clearly the most powerful move in the game....got it

The reason I mentioned Flukenest before, is that if you combine Flukenest with Shaman Stone, you can do up to 9x16(144) damage. Without Shaman Stone, it does 6x16(96) damage, which is still a lot. However Flukenest does this at the cost of range, consistancy, and Shade Soul's ability to pass through enemies and terrain.

Shade Soul normally only does 30 damage, but 40 with shaman stone. It also can pass through terrain, and pierces through enemies and can hit them multiple times. It can also be cast much more quickly than the other spells.
Descending Dark does 15+30+15(60) damage, but hits for 23+50+15(80) damage with shaman stone. It also gives you I-frames whenever you cast it. It is mainly used in close combat.
Abyssal Shriek does 20x4(80) damage, or 30x4(120) damage with shaman stone. It is mainly used to counter aerial enemies, such as the Radiance, and reaches quite far upwards.

(The Radiance takes no knockback, so it will always take max damage from Abyssal Shriek, it also reaches far enough that you don't need to jump in order to hit her with it)

You don't have to beat Radiance for Steel Soul btw, beating Hollow Knight and getting one of the regular endings is enough for the achievements. Getting there will be hard enough, don't risk a steel soul run for the best ending.
