On the other hand,Ori - the game which I haven't played yet myself, but the praise is there from a couple of friends who do know what they are talking about.
La-mulana is great and that game actualy broke me, since I didn't want to look up a walkthrough/guide and I got lost somewhere in the dark. Shortly after I got distracted and never finished it. One day I will though!
Odallus is amazing! If you are more into into classic Castlevania, get it and Axiom verge if you are more into Metroid. Momodora short but sweet from what I understand.
Valdis, Dust, Guacamelee etc are all good, just neither grabbed me as much as those mentioned before.
From the upcomming, I mostly await Blasphemous which I backed (self-described as dark nonlinear action platformer), Wizard of Legend, Lamulana2, Ghost song and maybe Bloodstained too (although in that case I haven't backed it since I was somewhat put off by the weeaboo visuals - it's nowhere near as subtle as e.g. Muramasa the demon blade etc). Children of morta if we talk roguelites/hybrids like Sundered and Dead cells (imo procedural generators defeats the idea and main asset of metroidvanias (really dislike that tag btw), which is ofc the carefully designed and intricate game world/levels with all those shortcuts, ability-dependant gaps etc).
P.s. Also there is a chance that you got spoilt by HK and only more HK content in the future will (temporarily) fill that void
This is probably one of my favourite Metroidvanias that went under most peoples radars, It's really solid in terms of gameplay and has a riddiculous amount of content
Wait, this game came out back in 2015? And I'm only hearing about the game this year?
Wow, no kidding it flew under the radar.

I'm completely over retro pixel-based art-styles. I am done with that stuff. I want more beautiful hand drawn stuff like Hollow Knight.
'S a good game. It's been relreased a lot of times since it was first made in 2004. Note that the entire game, all aspects of it, were made by a single person. Not necessarily true for the ports and remakes, though.
The remakes can be purchased, but the original with english translations is still available from the tribute site. Not sure about the legality anymore. When I downloaded it, that was the only way to obtain an english version I could find.
Its main problem is its combat (which, given that's the main focus of the game, is kind of a big problem). Unlike Hollow Knight, where each enemy is fought as an individual, Sundered makes you fight huge swarms of enemies that you button mash your way through.
There are also only 5 unique bosses. All of the other bosses are just bigger/reskinned versions of already existing enemies.
As I mentioned, Sundered is partially a Roguelike, meaning that it has some level of procedural generation. This would be fine if it actually had the level of room variety that most standard Roguelikes have, but in Sundered the rooms repeat a LOT. Each time you die, the world layout shuffles a bit, but the positions of certain rooms(boss chambers, ability shrines, etc) will remain static.
The main draw for the game is for its stunningly fluid animation style. The eldritch powers you can get are pretty neat.
The ending is also very reminicient of Hollow Knight. Think about it, You fight a weak version of yourself, then fight true final boss immediately after. The main difference being that in this, the Light is good, and the Abyss is bad.
I am still interested in the game, despite how many gripes I have with it, but having played Hollow Knight, I can't help but judge other games based on that experience.

I've just run through Aria and while it was only 5 1/2 hours long for a blind runthrough, it reminded me why I enjoyed playing them back in the day.

I tried playing Ori and the Blind Forest because I liked Hollow Knight, and was badly disappointed. Finished in ~10 hours with 100% completion and I couldn't bring myself to care about the story or the gameplay at any point. Aquaria suffers from many of the same problems. They're good games to play if you want huge fields of gorgeous handcrafted graphics, but don't expect anything gameplay-wise.
-Ori is very pretty, and fairly easy. Great platforming, but bad combat.
-Salt & Sanctuary. 2D Dark Souls in every since of the word. VERY hard (harder than HK), and you can die from fall damage
-Dust. Play this and be amazed that it was made by ONE GUY. And yes, it's quite good.
-Cave Story. Also made by one guy. Also very good.
-La Mulana. Puzzles to make you hate life. But figuring them out give you a real sense of accomplishment. And if you think this is hard, the original game was even worse. Yes really.
-Sundered. Don't buy this. Sounds cool in concept, but it falls apart in execution.
-Steamworld Dig 2. A fun little game. Not particularly challengeing, but worth playing.
I know, Subnautica is more of a survival game. But you explore uncharted territory, find (or build) powerups that help you explore more. Face huge denizens of the deep. I'd say it got enough MV qualities to be worth mentioning. Plus, it's just a REALLY good game.
