Are there any other metroidvania games up to this standard?
I've been on a metroidvania kick for the months, then I found this game and sunk like 80 hours into it. Now im looking for other games like it and can't seem to find any. This game raised my expectations for this genre so high. Anyone have any suggestions for similar games of similar quality? I don't even know why they are only charing $17 for this game. It's worth at least $30

Unfortunately, Hollow Knight is probably the best Metroidvania on the market right now, so if you're hoping to find other games that are just as good, you're going to be disappointed.

Having said that, here's 5 Metroidvanias that are all highly acclaimed. You may enjoy some of these, but again, don't expect them to compare to Hollow Knight.

yeah thanks, I've checked out all of these. I picked up momodora and was considering Ori. I tried Axiom verge and just couldn't get into it. I kind of figured I wouldn't find anything up to par with hollow knight. It's definitely the best metroid-vania I've played. Guess I'll just have to wait for the Hornet DLC and work on getting the last few achievements.

I am also a big fan of "Valdis Story: Abyssal City" but it is quite different from Hollow Knight. I would recommend watching some LPs of it so you can find out if it's something you would like to play

yeah, I've checked this out too, it actually looks decent. I went through like 30 pages of the Metroidvania tag on steam lol. There's a lot of crap on there that shouldn't be tagged metroidvania.

I dont know if this one is considered metroidvania, but It has an air of the same genre.

The "big" games of similar quality have been listed, but I also recommend the following (with caveats):

1) Steamworld Dig 2 -- Nowhere near as long as Hollow Knight, but charming in its own right. You can complete it in maybe 6-8 hours.

2) The Mummy Demastered -- the game has its issues (its death mechanic is a bit wonky/unbalanced and its map doesn't mark doorways leading to some frustration) but its generally a good blend of Metroid and Contra as well as an homage to them and Castlevania -- some enemies are basically ripped from both. Oh, its got great music too. Again, reasonably short in comparison to Hollow Knight, but as said, HK is incredible value for money.

Oh, I've also played Omega Strike and Nightmare Boy recently. I don't recommend the latter, but Omega Strike is ok-ish. I think my general list (with arbitrary scoring) is:

Hollow Knight - 10/10
Ori and the Blind Forest (Definitive Edition) - 10/10
Guacamelee STCE - 9.5/10
Axiom Verge - 9/10
Steamworld Dig 2 - 8/10
Valdis Story - 7/10
The Mummy Demastered - 7/10
Omega Strike - 6/10
Nightmare Boy - couldn't get into, but maybe 3 or 4/10

I'd say it's in my top 3 of the genre together with Hollow Knight and Ori. Prepare for a very unforgiving and cryptic game should you decide to delve into it.

There's also

It's a bit closer to classic Castlevania as the game is divided by stages, but it's still an action-adventure at its core. Excellent game.

Ori and the Blind forest is very good, though it differs from Hollow Knight

I'll add to the La-Mulana and Axiom Verge recommendations. Both also have a very neat way of storytelling.

Environmental station alpha is great. But to get the full experience you need to do some very cryptic postgame puzzles such as translating an alien language. La-mulana is also very good and probably my favorite indie game.

+1 to the 3 La-Mulana suggestions. Currently got 380+ hours on it from multiple replays and still working through the Time Attack mode.

Nothing in past decade can compare to Hollow Knight, but there is one game set for 2018 release which can make it..

Hollow Knight is probably the best Metroidvania you can get. There are some people will argue Ori is better though...

Decent Metroidvanias are a bit rare... The problem is that games of this particular genre require a great deal of care to make, and most players will only play through the game once.
This has resulted in some developers trying to mix Metroidvania with Roguelike into a hybrid genre called "Roguevania", in an attempt to add more replayability.
The most notable examples of this hybridization are Dead Cells, and Sundered. Neither of them balance the two genres very well, tending to lean more towards one genre than the other. However, there is a game called A Robot Named Fight, which actually is the only example I can think of where both genres are evenly balanced. Unfortunately the game suffers from a comically low difficulty, and is probably only about as long as Momodora.
If you want a Roguelike, I'd say Nuclear Throne is the best currently available. Though there is a Roguelike coming out either this December, or early next year, called Wizard of Legend, and it looks amazing.
If its a Metroidvania your looking for, then know that Hollow Knight stands firmly above the rest. But since you've already "been there, done that", your best bets are Ori, or Salt & Sanctuary.
