Receiving damage
Hello,I heard this game should be hard but I think receiving damage just by touching an enemy seems unfair,I can't dodge through my enemies so sometimes I just get cornered and die cause I can't heal because until I full focus I'm already dead. To me this seems unfair, like i lose my health and doesn't even have time to get it back because i just touched enemy while he is was just standing there and doing nothing, not even charging an attack, and when you can't even get away from that place and you die over and over and over just because you receive damage just by that enemy is "just there" seems unfair to me.

Getting hurt when enemies touch you is pretty standard in... well, all video games, really. Certainly in side-scrollers, platformers, and metroidvania games like HK. Perhaps you need to shift your play strategy from taking damage and healing to avoiding damage in the first place. I mean, if you're touching an enemy when "he was standing there and doing nothing," then you literally just moved yourself into an enemy. Maybe... don't do that?

Technically the game has a unique level system ... as you advance the game appear much faster and stronger enemies .. but you also acquire more health, charms and skills that will help you survive.

I can only recommend that you continue to practice fighting enemies.

Well I played Salt and Sanctuary before and there I avoided damage by rolling and learning when to roll. I always try to avoid damge but when I am closed in room with large enemy and I want to get to better position (getting cornred is not very comfortable) I try to jump over him but sometimes as i jump he decides to jump too or I just hold jump little less than I should and boom,I got damged. I try to avoid damge but lack of i-frames and getting damaged just by touching him was frustrating sometimes, and when I need 20 hits to finish the guy off and i have only 5 masks of health and i can't get them back.... You know i just feel cheated, like alot ppl were complaining in DS2 for bad hitboxes and unfairnes of levels but I always managed to learn hot to get through it. here I just fight foe twice sized as me so getting away is...Little hard but can be done. But when I just lose health because he decies to touch me... If I could deal 1/5 of their health just by that I touch them I'd gladly accept this trade, but when he kills me just because "he wants" can be frustrating.

Also if you are wondering what's the reason why I posted this here is that i had this problem several times but knight miniboss in soul sanctum with his homing projctiles and teleports to me just makes me feel hopeless cause i am not even able to heab because until I focus he does like 3 attacks.

AFAIK, pretty much all damage seems pretty avoidable if you react well to attacks and don't put yourself into bad positions where you don't have any way to avoid taking damage. I still take a lot of damage because I'm bad and make mistakes, but it's always seemed like the damage was "fair" and avoidable in hindsight.

When Soul Warrior teleports above you, it stands in mid-air for half a second before slamming on the ground. You have more than enough time to walk away from under it.
When it charges at you, it has a windup animation of almost a second. Your full jump is much higher than Soul Tyrant, so you have a very generous window to jump over the charge. While dodging its charge, you can pogo on him while it's dashing.
When it shoots a homing projectile, you should hopefully be on the ground: you can jump over the projectile and it will arch upward, if it doesn't hit a wall it will aim at you almost vertically, so you can dodge it just by moving slightly.

I suggest you keep trying and become familiar with the timing of these animations, so that you can get better at dodging most of the attacks, and won't need to heal.
Really good advice. Personally I like to stick to one corner or the other and punish him when he drops or charges. Just have to jump to avoid the spell, it will hit the wall. Move to the opposite corner when he occupies yours. Pogo jump on him, etc.

Lots of bosses/mini-bosses don't allow you many opportunities to heal, or maybe none at all depending on the boss and what charms you have. In these cases you should work under the assumption that you may not be able heal during the fight. Evasion is then the most important.

I feel your pain about running into enemies. It probably took me 40 tries against Hornet in Greenpath, because I kept moving in ways that would cause me to walk stright into her and take damage. Took some time to realize what I personally needed to win that. Don't move towards her ever, let her come to you. It works pretty well for some of the bosses, and I think this one falls under that category. It was also good to realize how useful sowrd jumping on enemies is, which isn't something I'd done a lot before Hornet. That said, I still screw up sword jump timing all the time.

Have you ever touched a game in your life, bud?
Vellutia Nov 5, 2017 @ 12:09pm
Most game works like that right? Like the basic ones Mario, Sonic, Tomba?

Honestly it'd be harder to name games that don't have contact damange than ones that do. It is a very, very common mechanic going back generations (as another poster pointed out)
Legosebe Nov 6, 2017 @ 6:45am
Well,I know contact damage can be pretty standard but i am not used t it very much. (my bad)
Also thing that i don't like the most may not be contact damage (I can get past that) but lack of i-frames just don't fit my play style very much,I want to move freely to where I want, not where boss wants me in. Only thing I am asking for is i-frames during dash or jump so I can position better+contact damage makes fights alot longer for me,and I like fast combat like hornet for example. I can get used to contact but when there is no escape from attack for 40th time and you die to that just because no heal time and you can't move away can start to be frustrating.
The game has i-frames, both when you use Deolate Dive, get hit, and an upgrade to a certain abilityt if you decide to go deeper into the story.

git gud or die. adapt to the game, dont change the game.

Well if there are i-frames there are now the only thing i want in the game. I know the git gud is strong here and I am not attempting to change the game, yes it seems unfair to me to get damaged and not even being able to get life back just because someone decides he hurts me with his whole body while I am dashing but what can I do. As I wrote here before I got over it much times but part with Soul warrior made me so angry. So i posted this here to see what other ppl has to say about this topic. Also big thanks to everyone who gave me advices about how to get past that annoying part,I am definitely going to try this. Also one point I probably didn't write here is that most of my deaths were by contact damage. Guess I have to adapt to this game's mechanics it seems to not be what i have expected. (I'm having absolute blast of the game,I only expected more i-frames than this)

What the heck are iframes? I just want to increase damage resistance so i lose 1/4 maybe 1/2 of a mask when hit instead of a full one, and a damaged mask to regenerate on its own with time.

Short Invincibility/Invulnerability time (for example, after casting Desolate Dive or using Shade Cloak or after blocking).

They are also HTML documents embedded inside another HTML document, but this is another context.
