How to revert game to a previous state

So I did something thinking that I could just go back on the save and try the other solution. However, I was met with waking up on a new save with the previous outcome. Is there a way that I can revert the save data?

The game auto-saves even if you don't use a bench (the flower dying works the same way). You can only go back to an older save if there's an old enough .bak file in the game files. Even aside from this specific use, it's a good idea to have a copy of the save file just because people have reported the file getting corrupted. (Also a good way to cheat in Steel Soul mode.)

So how do I use the bak files (sorry if the solution is obvious I am just dumb)

That file isn't a save file, and isn't located anywhere near your save files¹.
You can find the location of your save files detailed at the bottom of this guide (reminder to make backups!) :

¹If you had modified the file you mention, it might have broken some part of the game, but simply verifying the integrity of game files or reinstalling the game would have fixed it.
