It seemed like a side quest worth devoting some time into irrespective of the main storyline. Just disappointing that it wasn't. Frustrating sidebar to an otherwise amazing platformer.
And that's kinda the point. You'd have to be a Fool to take this challege on. It's worth nothing and is easily the hardest fight in the game.
Well, it is worth something actually: 1% of game completion. Which means if you want 100%, you have to do it. Took me like 10 tries, and that was after I had already done everything else.
I spent days hammering at that trial with everything I had!
Eventually I found a charm setup that worked, but it was still hard to do even then.
I ended up using Dream Wielder(1 slot), Nailmaster Glory(1 slot), Shaman Stone(3 slots), Flukenest(2 slots), & Mark of Pride(3 slots).
I used Dream Wielder to collect soul from Shielded Fools once I killed all the other enemies in that wave. Once your soulful, kill the Shielded Fool with Dash Slash.
I used Nailmaster for 1-hitting Death Loodles and hitting enemies during the infamous spike pit(since melee range is hampered when clinging to walls, even with longnail charms). You can also use Great Slash to protect yourself during the "rain of Death Loodles" because the attack arcs over your head.
I used Shaman Stone + Flukenest together because it increases Shade Soul damage potential to 144(just 3 damage less than the combined 7 stikes of Cyclone Slash), and allows you to hit enemies on a diagnal(useful when the Bobbobles spawn in the spike pit). The super high damage from Flukenest allows you to kill the bosses quickly.
And Mark of Pride is just a must have in virtually every stage of the arena.
As for a reward, I would just be happy if they gave the Hunter's Mark a function.
There are are currently about 153 journal entries available in the game, and I know you only need a little over 140 of them to get the mark, but since the Trial of the Fool entries are a mandatory requirement for the mark, you would think it would be worth more than a mere achievement.
Trial of the Fool was a joke comparitively.
Yeah, there are a number of things to do or find that are not included in that %. But I kind of like that. Helps the air of mystery and exploration. The percentage is nice as a guide, but I'm glad that it's not a totally accurate indicator of when I've wiped out all of the game's content. That's the point in other open world games where playing them becomes immediately stale and pointless.
The top eleven hardest things for me were;
1. The Trial of Fools (notes; this took me nearly 30 F****** hours. Never again)
2. The Radiance (notes; this took me somewhere between 20 to 25 hours)
3. The Failed Champion (notes; laggy boss fight + double dmg = 8 hours of agony)
4. Soul Tyrant (notes; me for 6 hours: "STOP TELEPORTING AND LET ME HIT YOU!!!")
5. White Palace (notes; used shortcuts and found the secret rooms, took about 4 hours)
6. Ze'mer the Grey Mourner (notes; took approximately 3 hours. I kept screwing up the last jump)
7. White Defender (notes; first battle only, boss dmg & hp starts to increase on 2nd fight)
8. Grey Prince Zote (notes; first 3 fights only, boss dmg & hp starts to increase on 4th fight)
9. Brooding Mawlek (notes; took me nearly 2 hours to beat a glorified miniboss...)
10. Crystal Guardians (notes; took a little over an hour)
11. The Collector (notes; took about an hour)
Have you fought Nosk yet after the update? He's a pretty tough boss too.
But damn dude 30 hours on Trial of Fools? I died once but I did the collesium after I had all the abilities and most nail upgrades. The only thing I thought was difficult was the wall section but even then you can just downward attack on their heads over and over.
Lost Kin is far easier than the other dream bosses, I think I used Fragile Strength + Quickslash + Defender Crest and something else to beat him.
Soul Tyrant was just hard because he doesn't stay still very long, so I used Soul Eater + Shaman Stone + Spell Twister + Grubsong, and hit him with Abyssal Shriek whenever he did the orbital attack.
I didn't have too much trouble with Nosk, only took 2 attempts(he got stuck in a wall a few times, but I actually wanted to fight him, so I killed myself with contact his damage).
My issues with the Collector was just that I couldn't time its jumps very well.
With the Trial of Fools, for the first few hours I was trying to do overcharm builds(very bad idea). Early on, most of my deaths were attributed to Primal Aspids, then it was Soul Twisters, then it was Mawleks, then it was Bobbobles, then it was Death Loodles, then it was the God Tamer. It may not have been a full 30 hours, alot of that time may have been from me walking away from my computer in frustration.
I forgot to mention the dream warrior fights, I did have some trouble with Noeyes(easier with Glowing Womb), Marmu(easier with Shape of Unn) and Elder Hu(easier with Shade Cloak).
