If you do fight him then the biggest tip is to dodge under his shots. They'll follow you downwards and hit the ground rather than looping back around and coming at you from behind.
When he moves across the screen surrounded by the balls, and then sends them back across the other way, the attack will never hit the center of the stage on the way back. Jump over the bottom one as he goes across and you have a fairly wide opening to heal.
Remember to use any extra soul for Vengeful Spirits, but try to make sure you don't fire when he teleports, as that is worse than sitting at full soul when you don't need to heal.(when at full soul the priority is generally: heal if needed/possible >= hit with spell >> sit at full soul >>>>>> miss with a spell. Sitting at full soul wastes any extra soul you could have gotten, but at least it's there when you need it as opposed to spending it to do nothing useful)
Edit: also if you immediately go left when you enter the soul sanctum there is an elevator that goes up to a locked door. The left wall of the elevator about halfway up can be broken and there's a bench right there. Makes the walk back to the fight a little shorter and safer.
With the Soul Master specificallly, I found that the Dashmaster charm was nice to close the distance when he teleports so you can get a hit in (and if you know you aren't going to get to him in time before he moves again, dash to the other side of the arena because he's more likely to teleport there next). Either of the long nail charms is nice too, but isn't necessary. When he just travels along the ground from one side to the other, you are able to jump over him if you time it right (you have to be at maximum jump height to avoid touching him, and a dash helps here so you can stay at that height for longer), or alternatively you can dash to the full opposite side of the arena (iirc, if you are touching the edge, he won't hit you). For his Desolate Dive attack, it's helpful to just dash as far away as possible, in case he does the fake first, so you have time to react to the wave. When he shoots orbs at you, if horizontal just jump over them, if vertical dash out of the way. And when he travels across with the soul orbs orbiting around him, it's easiest to just sit in the middle (you'll have to hop over one orb on the first pass, and when the orbs come back you don't have to move at all). If you still find yourself unable to avoid his attacks and get hurt a lot, the Quick Focus charm will obviously help. The best time to heal is during the orbiting soul orb attack, after you hop over the orbs on their first pass; if you are in the center like I described before, you can get at least 2 heals in because the orbs will pass right over your head when they return for their second pass, allowing you to just sit there and heal. Another god time is after the ground-pass if you are able to hop over early.
Hope this helps, and good luck! :)
