Exactly how big is the main character?
Is he small or is he big, relative to humans? Is everything down in the bug world or is this whole world a buggy world where everyone is round-about human size?

You ever seen a nail as big as a human?

Just an FYI, I haven't finished the game, but I don't mind the spoilers so much.

Nope, and I haven't seen nails like he has. Also, that doesn't mean it can't be a big nail :T

I don't think you ever find out for sure if he is roughly bug sized or in a world where bugs are people sized.

I seem to recall there being the suggestion in the western region of the map that these bugs would lose their intelligence if they strayed too far from civilization. This would suggest that they are standard size for insects in the real world. Still, even discounting that vague recollection there is their relative size to everything else around them. Plants, thorns, drops of water, clumps of dirt, all massive by comparison. That alone would suggest insect sized insects.

Edit and spoilery, somewhat... though not really: The whispering root over in Howling Cliffs: Wasteland... Bugs Reduced

Wouldn't it be funny if this entire game took place in the real world under someone's front porch?

Not sure about the front porch part; but I AM pretty sure that the entire thing takes place in the real world.

Not human sized, Bug and ant sized, they're bugs in a bug world, that's it.

Also, the reason it keeps raining in City of Tears is because the guy left the garden hose on.

Eh, considering the toxic state of much of the water, I'm thinking sewage or runoff from a plant, factory or research facility. Slightly similar to The Secret of N.I.M.H., if you're familair with that movie/story. It would also explain why they are "reduced" if they stray too far from their civilization: they are moving too far from the source of their mutations.

Edit: probably nuclear, thus "the Radiance." Too much of it becomes a huge problem as it emnantes outward. Keeping it contained would keep the rest of the bugs from turning into the shambling husks that we saw throughout.

My headcanon is that the Hollow Knight is child sized. :3

Kinda screw up, ain't it? The hollow knight will kill literaly Radiance, the god of insects and light, kind of. ...But, if a human was to come by and simply step on this whole small "world", it would be as if nothing ever happened.
