Grey Prince Zote FAQ [minor spoilers]
Saw a few people asking many of the same questions about the new content. This thread contains minor spoilers about the fight, obviously.

Unlocking
To enable the fight you need to defeat Zote in the Coliseum of Fools'. He will appear in a cage, and be the boss of the first tier of the arena, after you have saved him twice (from the Vengefly, and again in Deepnest).

Location
To access the fight, you need to save Bretta from the Fungal Wastes. If Zote has been defeated in the arena and Bretta has been rescued, then a trapdoor to her basement will appear, where she has built a shrine to Zote.

Tactics
You can fight Grey Prince Zote multiple times. However, he gains new attacks the first few times, and does one more damage each time as well. People have reported that he can do enough damage to one-hit kill you if you're not careful. Some attacks, such as his Zotelings, only do about half damage (minimum of 1) compared to his contact or sword damage. In some cases, his fake-out dash slam has hit me and only dealt 1 damage from the front, where most of his attacks were otherwise doing 7 or 8 damage.

As far as charms go, I have had great success early on by using the Quick Focus charm to learn his attacks, but ultimately it quickly becomes useless since it takes so much effort to heal from the huge damage he does. A better option might be Lifeblood charms to extend your life bar, and avoid healing altogether.

I consider Quick Slash a must. In combination with Longnail and Mark of Pride, you can safely hit him from a short range without worrying about a sudden dash hurting you. It also makes swatting his minions a lot easier. I found the most dangerous attack was when he does his sword flailing, since it comes at you so quickly, a dash can't always escape it. However, when he flops over, he is vulnerable for a few seconds, so I've found Desolate Dive to be useful here, which means a magic build might be viable too.

Overall, he's not too hard as far as bosses go, once you get his patterns down. Just be defensive and let him come to you. He has a lot of goofy attacks that you need to read so you don't get tricked by them.

tbh. he was pretty easy to kill. if you are in endgame you can pretty much tank him.
would have nice to get some reward for killing him though

Your comment suggests that you didn't read the post all the way through and have only fought him once lol. You can't "tank him" later on.

There also isn't much of a point beyond fighting him a few times, either.

You can't verify that yet. As the devs did state they included some 'extras' in the update. It may be directly related to defeating them multiple times or there may be more hidden secrets throughout the world.

I've beaten him eleven times, you get nothing but a greater challange past the first clear, so......... No, there isn't any point beyond fighting him a few times. There is no achivement, there is no dialogue change, there is nothing but MOAR DAMAGE, and eventually More health.

Lol? And what about the rest of the game world? Have you explored every inch to see if something changed or unlocked? Doubt it. They said they included extras so there is extras somewhere - even if not directly related to the two bosses

I found the easiest way to deal with the flailing sword is to just pogo him. I tried just dashing away but I wasn't able to dodge the attack still. Maybe using the Dash Master charm would make it manageable, but I think pogoing is the best tactic there.

Same, I beat it 10 times, I think? My statue is golden and all candles are lit. My last encounter was where he could kill you in one hit (man was that a pain).

So that's it? It's just repeating the 10th fight again?

I just need to know that it's done, lol.

Actually, they did:

http://teamcherry.com.au/hidden-dreams-update-mods-summer-games-done-quick-mods/

They explicitly said they "may have managed to squeeze a few unannounced little surprises in" when announcing the change to August 3rd for the release date of the content update.

In fact, besides the two new bosses, the dream gate ability, and the new stag station there have been two new things found:

- Nosk now has two new extra attacks.
- Revek now attacks you in the Glade of Hope if you dream nail any of the spirits.
