Hollow Knight

Hollow Knight

I'm finding an awful lot of similarities between The Hollow Knight and Knight Artorias the Abysswalker from Dark Souls.
I don't mean it in a bad way,I actually love that since Dark Souls is one of my favorite franchises.Like, both were knights dutied with sealing an infection, both are renown throughout the kingdom for their heroics, and both kinda actually failed to acomplish their task, and got plagued from that infection. And well, both are really badass.

They actually did the opposite:
was one of the great knights of Gwyn while The Hollow Knight not only wasnt even considered one of the Knights but it was an unknown being, no one besides the king and the queen, the dreamers, and mmaybe the most loyal servants knew anything about him.

That is not true, there is even a huge statue of him in the middle of the City of Tears, he was treated like Artorias, he made a sacrifice which cost his life, and their people tought they have succeded, while it truth they both failed.
The way I look at it hk succeed in containing the corruption for a time. Till a new one appeared.

For a time, but its purpose was to contain it forever, the way it happens in the Sealed Siblings ending.

its actually true, even tho the statue is there no one knew of him beforehand, lemm states that in a quote, when he stares at the statue under the rain, saying that besides that statue he wasnt able to find any evidence of that mysterious knight, it wasnt his people who made the statue, it was likely ordered by the king himself to remember the kinght because otherwise no one would.

That quote of lemm is a big hint to the knight not being known by the people, its also not counted alongside ze'mer, dryya, ogrim, isma and hegemol as one of the great knights (those were well known by the people) since the king had him hidden from the rest of the kingdom.

He may not have found anything about the Knight, but he didn't find anything about the five knights either, even their names were forgotten. So it is likely that a very large abount of time has passed, so we can't be sure if the people of Hollownest Knew about the Knight. They surely didn't know the way he was created though.

Yes, but the Lemm knows about the five knights from various artifacts and research. Wouldn't there be mention of the hollow knight in any of those various wanderers journals or other texts that Lemm has read? Nope, he can only find the hollow knight from that statue.

As you said a long time has passed and we dont exactly know the timeline. The vessels were created to seal the infection, meaning there was alread a big problem. My guess is that much of hallownest was already dead by the time the hollow knight sealed the infection. Afterward the pale king created that statue and retreated to his palace.

Not to sure, maybe buyed time with all the experiments the king had to have known it wasn't enough. Then again radiance.

That is the point, the Hoolow Knight was purely hollow, it could have contained the Radiance if it wasn't for the pale king's fatherly feelings.

Then how do we know the current one will be able to contain it?

Because that vessel is uncorrupted. Also, dream nailing the Hollow Knight gives you text which says something among the lines of "oh no, that boy is pretty empty, he could contain me" to confirm this. (although I don't remember if that is cut content or not)

Because the white lady explicitly states so.

As they say above lemm knows about the five knights. Also its not only a maybe lemm knew or not reason but a narrative one. That moment is a significant moment and almost every quote in this game has its purpose. Whats the point of him saying he didnt find anything about that knight in the whole city, with all the relics he has had from all around the kingdom if it doesnt have a deeper connotation.

That moment is used to tell the player that the hollow knight was a secret, that normal people didnt know about him. The 5 knights are mentioned by lemm and many other former citizens of the kingdom, but the hollow knight is only named by important people or sages like the seer.
The hollow knight came out of nowhere, when the kingdom was already collapsed, how would they have recordings of him, when they obviously couldn't talk about their past and he came out of nowhere, only to disappear into the black egg right after?
And also, why would they put a huge statue of him out there for everyone to see? If everyone knows about him, then he can't be a secret anymore.

"The hollow knight came out of nowhere, when the kingdom was already collapsed, how would they have recordings of him"

No, thats wrong, its pretty clear that the knight was with the king for a long but non-specified amount of time in order for him to grow as a vessel, during that time no citizen from hallownest knew about him besides maybe the higher hierarchy members.

During that time the kingdom was running and the infection didnt attain the core of the kingdom, this was likely the time when the city of tears was sealed, the queens gardens were invaded by mantis traitors attempting to kill the queen and doctors like the ghost you find on fungal wastes were brave enough to go outside the city to try to find a cure to the infection, the kingdom was falling, but it wasnt lost.

The only oportunity they had to know about him was once he was sealed in the egg and the statue was made, the game makes clear that was the only evidence the citizens had of his existence. They probably knew the same lemm knows after analizing all those relics. That was a knight that somehow sacrificed himself for the kingdom.

"And also, why would they put a huge statue of him out there for everyone to see? If everyone knows about him, then he can't be a secret anymore."

Why make a statue? because he sacrificed himself eve tho no one knew of him, with that statue they would remember him even if they didnt know who he was nor what he has done.

The secret was not the knight itself but what he was made of, what his sacrifice was and his relationship with the king, those are the secrets, not the knight, but apparently the king kept his existence in secret to avoid people discovering one or various of those.
"Its pretty clear that the knight was with the king for a long but non-specified amount of time in order for him to grow as a vessel, during that time no citizen from hallownest knew about him besides maybe the higher hierarchy members."

Under that I meant that the citizens didn't know about its existence or his background, he did came out of nowhere. The argument was that people of Hallownest didn't know about the knight, so I aimed my words at the citizens. Obviously the king knew about him because he made him and raised him, but that is self explanatory. That is why I said: " They obviously couldn't talk about his past"

I know, but the argument was that the knight itself was kept a secret, which it surely wasn't. It is clear that the way he was made is a secret, but that was not what we weree talking about so far.

People didnt know about the mysterious knight at all, maybe they knew something like that existed but thats all. Thats enough to prove my point, that it is not similar to what artorias was.
