When I first saw the Hollow Knight I immediately thought of Artorias
Can everyone just stop comparing games to each other and enjoy them for what they are?
I mean I'm just sick of that quote and people who tag "soulslike" to everything
Don't get me wrong I've played my fair share of darksouls, i'm just sick to everything and their mother getting compared to it.
Lol, jokes aside, I don't like comparing any game to another game because that frame of reference might not exist for every new player. Also, when the referenced game has conveniences not present in this game, it really hurts the experience, e.g. 'Why does dark souls have such and such convenient thing but hollow knight doesn't?'
Has nothing to do with difficulty or any such nonsense.
One could even say HK is the game where you control Solaire the sunlight guy, because you look like a bug, and are hollow, just like he with the maggot on his head.
Aside from that aspect, HK and Dark Souls is nothing alike. I agree with arejang and others ... comparing everything to Dark Souls really, really needs to stop since it's gotten to the point where it doesn't even make sense. I'm a Soulsborne fanboy and I'm really getting sick of it lol. IMO, the only "Soulslike" games that have come out recently are Salt and Sanctuary and Nioh.(Oh man Nioh is soo much better than Dark Souls lol... well combat/storywise, it fails in the exploration/atmosphere area though.)
Artorias walked into the abyss for his kingdom and that was his sacrifice.
The hollow knight not only did not walk into anything but contained the light inside and that was his sacrifice.
one walked into the dark, the other took the light within himself.
Artorias was one of the great knights of Gwyn while The Hollow Knight not only wasnt even considered one of the Knights but it was an unknown being, no one besides the king and the queen, the dreamers, and mmaybe the most loyal servants knew anything about him.
i actually think they are the opposite from one another.
It was stated in a podcast that the similarities to dark souls are because hollow knight is based in older games dark souls may be based on aswell.
That is not true, there is even a huge statue of him in the middle of the City of Tears, he was treated like Artorias, he made a sacrifice which cost his life, and their people tought they have succeded, while it truth they both failed.
