Keyboard settings

I can't afford a controllor so I am currently looking for recommendations for good keyboard binds for the game.

Here are my keybinds that I find work fairly well in my 100% playthroughs of Hollow Knight:

Arrow keys = directional movement
Space = jump
L Shift = focus
L Ctrl = dash
D = attack
S = superdash
A = dream nail
Tab = map
Q = inventory
F = fast cast (I personally don't use this in my playthroughs)

To be completely honest, I actually based this control scheme on the default keyboard controls for Ori since the keyboard+mouse scheme in that game felt really natural (not going to argue one is better than the other - I love both games for different reasons).

i played with 100% default controls on keyboard, no problems whatsoever - smooth controls, better than with controller imo.

I believe quick cast is only the alternate version of "tap the Focus"

I personally use Lost Saga keyboard scheme:
A = jump
S = Dash
D = attack
F = focus
W = crystal dash
E = dream nail
Arrows = movement

Fits my "business typing" hand, where my pinky finger hits the A button.

I rebound to WASD for movement, Q/E for casting, NUM-7 for attack, NUM-8 for dash, NUM-9 for dream nail, NUM-4 for map and NUM-5 for super dash. The lower num keys aren't used in combat but are easily repositioned to, and I can use both hands

Right handed (laptop, so not a full sized keyboard and there's a mousepad below it)

Arrow Keys - directions
Z = Cast
X = Jump
C = Attack
Space = Dash
L-shift = dream nail
CTRL = superdash

I / Tab for inv / map as you're always going to do those in safe space anyhow.

Reason?

Attack is on your index finger, and jump / dash combos are almost always 'jump first, then dash' meaning the thumb timing is much easier to co-ordinate. You never have to re-position a finger unless you're dream nailing (which is rare) which helps.

I have movement on WASD
Jumping on Space
Cast on E
Focus on Q
Super Dash on F

Attack is on the Left Mouse Button
Dashing on the Right Mouse Button
Quick Cast is on Mouse 4 (under my right thumb), althought that needs to be rebound everytime you launch the game.


So movement and low priority stuff on the left hand, high priority combat actions on the right.

Since I am used to wasd movement and my keyboard has the up and down arrow key in a clustered placement, I decided to use this:
A = move left
D = moce right
W = look up/interact
S = look down/interact
SPACE = Jump
MOUSE1 = attack
MOUSE2 = dash
Q = Spell casting (all spells)
C = Long dash (I put this here becasue I move the finger from the space bar to ''C"' adn you do not need to jump to use the long dash plus this is not a common action)
Dream nail = E (while not used often, I want it to use it quick when I do)
Quick cast = NUM4 (annoyed by pressing F and acciden;ty using a spell while meaning to move to the right, just do not use it)
These are the most natural keybinds for me and I can't use the controller on this game bacuse on keyboard I find it easier to pogo/attack upwards.

I still dont understand how anyone would play this with m+kb and i love m+kb for almost all other games.

How are you presice enough with the movement with just being able to use 8 directions rather than a 360 movement if the thumbstick.

For 3rd and 1st person you can use the mouse to actually have an advantage in control but as far as i understand that is not even possible with most 2d games???

I just dont get it :(
