That's pretty messed up.
Plus, visiting the temple earlier and seeing all of the death in there plus an eerie statue made it all the more fun to revisit and find out more of what happened there.
From here it's unclear whether there really was a monster that killed each of the children, or if she was speaking to herself after being driven to madness and murdering them with her own hands, but regardless, the fact that her ghost being present shows that she has regret over allowing the children she took care of die.
I must say though, she's probably the most creepy of all the optional bosses IMO.
