How Are The Walking Times?
I'm considering picking this up and trying it out, but I'm not sure how bad the walking times actually are from reading some comments. In regards to metroidvania games, is Hollow Knight really that bad in terms of time spent walking around, like getting to certain areas/shops/bosses after death? Typically I'm pretty okay with times like those especially if exploring and such is fun anyway, but I'm just wondering what everyone thinks.

Well there are tram stations and a thing that you can use to travel through places.
Though you'd still need to walk a while but you do get cool abilities to make you run like HELL so it gets way waaay faster "notice i said abilities not ability since its more than one that helps you"

I haven't had a problem with walking times. I find it's better than your typical metroidvania. The stagling can take you around real easy like. If you want a metroidvania with some time spent walking a lot, play Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance.

the backtracking factor is actually a great aspect of the game.

Backtracking to find somewhere new is fine and interesting, but retracing your steps from the last checkpoint every time you die gets tedious, and if you don't do it, you lose all the in-game currency you've collected. You can get around this by not dying, but that means taking less risks which diminishes the fun somewhat.

Between all the unlocked shortcuts, the stag stations, the trams, and being able to just quit and reload from your last bench, the walking times aren't that bad. I genuinely don't get the "but you have to go back to get your ghost" complaint either since you should almost always die on the way to where you were going.

There's not even that much backtracking lol. You might get lost sometimes, and you have to return to shops sometime sure. You can TECHNICALLY complete the game without needing to traverse any screen more than twice (I think) as long as you know where you're going. If you don't know where you're going it's going to take you a lot longer of course.

Without spoiling anything, if you want to 100% the game you will obviously need to backtrack quite a bit, but if you're thinking about doing a 100% run you obviously won't care too much about backtracking.

Aside from that, you have 2 forms of "teleportation", 1 of which can take you to pretty much every area. So really, as long as you don't get lost too often it's not that bad.

The worst backtrack in my opinion was going back to the Nailsmith, because he wasn't really near a fast-travel point and you can go there up to 4 (right?) times and going there is pretty useful.

But first you have to unlock the shortcuts, find all the stag stations and trams, and find a bench near where you're about to die. I only just unlocked the trams yesterday, 38hrs into the game, and I still need almost half the stag stations. At this point, I've resorted to googling maps to find where the benches are to limit backtracking.

Everybody's play-through will be different. In mine, there is a lot of walking.
