Should I be destroying ghosts?

Not warrior dreams or whatever, but the peaceful ones that just talk such as in the Spirits Glade or the undertaker in Dirtmouth. They only give 1 dream token a piece so I don't feel like I need to be doing this to get my rewards, and after wiping out the entire Glade I feel regretful like I'm going to miss out on dialogue or something later. Maybe that's the point lol, the measley reward should make me feel bad for putting these suckers out of their misery?

Anyway, am I losing anything by doing this?

There are no repercussions for destroying them, so feel free to if you need some essence towards your next milestone.

You're not really destroying them. The Dream Nail isn't the "Ghost Slayer Blade". Notice how when you slash things it challenges them to a fight? When you slash normal people it lets you see their dreams.

You're just freeing them from the dream. You hero!

I find you dont get enough (1) to justify "killing" them, and you can reach the "max" without.

Damn, I didn't need to do that? ♥♥♥♥, I kinda liked all those ghosts staying around but thought I had to become the grim reaper for their stuck dreams.

There's 35 in the Glade of Hope alone. That's double what some trees give you.

You don't have to kill them. I finished the game with 2606 essence.

There's more than enough essence throughout the game's world without using the dream nail on those ghosts.

Far as anyone can tell, there's no positive or negative consequence of using it on them. So, whatever feels good man?

I soul reaved two ghosts (gravedigger & joni the friendly heretic) before encountering one that made me question my actions (Marissa). Since then, I haven't been able to reave anyone but the warrior ghosts and boss remnants. Just... didn't seem moral to predate on the peaceful echoes.

It's really up to you. But there is enough essence in the game. Ghost warriors and dream bosses give you almost all essence you need.

this. I don't think any major source of essence leaves you with few enough to your next milestone that dreamnailing any of the ghosts would get you there.
You're almost always aa multiple of 100 away, so you're always going to need another tree / ghost boss anyway.

Same here, after that I just had a moment like when you look at your hands and go "What have I done?"

I didn't have the same reaction. I felt worse playing games like beholder, but for this? yeah I didn't give it a second thought. It's content and I want to know what they all say. Plus they're already dead guys anyway. Not like I'm making the situation worse for them.

We don't really know what these ghosts even are so we don't know if it's moral to "kill" them. They could be just like their alive counterparts or just be memories of these people or maybe they are stuck in a limbo state waiting to be freed by someone like you.
