I assume it's an elevator for stags and is just decorative

Necro'ing this because I have new info and also this is the only relevant Google result. If you take the lift on the right all the way up and ground pound it from there, dark black chains in the foreground are lowered to what appears to be below the nest. I have gone outside and under the station to find what they lead to and have struck out.
Oh, wow! Good find, AudioEmu. Please do let us know if you find more.

I think those chains are for the lift to the right, they move as the lift moves.

edit:
Nevermind, I just made sure not to drop on the pressure plate from top and they dont move, they're seperate. Definitely move when the plate is pressed from top.

I checked again, and I'm pretty certain that the chains are connected to the movement of the lift. If you trigger the lift without riding it, you can watch them move.

I'm almost certain the "pressure plate" does nothing, which is a shame, but I guess you can't discover secrets endlessly.

Thing is, the lift on the right functions before you slam the pressure plate. The black chains only descend once the plate has been struck.

Not sure if you guys have figured it out already since the post is quite old, but I think I found what the pressure plat does and wanted to share it just in case.

I believe the pressure plate in the stag nest opens up an area in the room directly to the left from where you drop down the well in dirthmouth (So basicly in the Forgotten Crossroads). This is in the tall room with a lot of Gruzzers. Notice that also here you can see a lot of chains in the back and foreground. So I think it therefore has a connection with the chains in the Stag Station as well.

What I noticed when I re-entered that room from the top right directly after having been to the Stag Station, and having the chains come down from there, was that there was a crack in the ceiling that I believe wasn't there before. When I opened it up it revealed a Whispering Root.

If you're talking about the the tall room with the entrance to the Grub father, that whispering root is accessible as soon as you have the Mantis Claw.

I hadn't heard about this before, so I tested it myself.

The chains come down in response with the working elevator. Elevator goes down, chains go down. Using Descending Dark on the big elevator platform (from far above or otherwise) doesn't change anything either as far as I can see.

Now I don't want to say there's nothing special going on here... After playing with the chains animation some more, I managed to get the big elevator up, it played a battle theme I hadn't heard in this game and loaded me into an encounter with Mew. I caught it with my Marmu Ball. Even has a Hunter's Journal entry, the top description says "Everything you read on the internet is true", the bottom one finishes it with "Silksong will have microtransactions".

That hole is always there, I remember trying to get up when I first started the game
I'm pretty sure it's meant to represent a stags elevator. The way the pressure plate behaves is just like how the normal elevator bottoms behave WRT how it moves. It just never gets turned on because you don't have enough weight to trigger it. I like to image that there are a whole host of different sized elevators for all the many different scales of bugs across hallownest. Teensy whittle ones for luna flies. And mega phat ones for stags.
