Stuck in the City of Tears

I've just spoken to the Hornet by the fountain, but now I have no clue where to go. I've talked to the the collector and nailsmith as well. The only other thing I can find is the keyhole, but I don't have a key to use. Since I don't have a map, all I can do is wander around blindly, and since I can't leave the area I can't get to the black egg temple, which is the only clear goal I have now.

Go up.

In the building where the collector guy is, you should be able to keep going up, and it should lead you to a bench with the map guy, then eventually the crag station and key.

Well you are in the right area and you can't leave it, so you are not lost
You need to go up
From the bench of this area, go down until you find the elevator, midway through the elevator you can jump to a platform on the right, continue to the right and you will enter the big building, no you will need to climb up on this area, to find the map you will need to go in the left side somewhere in this place

The far left elevator, the one you first go down. Take it up and before it gets into the building, there's a platform you can jump to to your right.

I seem to be completely stuck. I killed the boss and I've gone everywhere in the next section but I cannot get out.

There is a door that's closed at the bottom of the area. There's a lever on the other side I guess I was supposed to hit.

Dying or saving and quitting just takes me back to where I killed the boss, and I cannot escape through the floor he broke to bring me to the lower room.

I see where you're stuck, and there is a way out, which is to break a breakable floor with your new ability. The breakable floor should be just above the vertical line of enemies on the other side of the door you mention.
