Gamefeel: Jump
Hopefully a helpful thot...

The physics on your jump feel off. It seems you cancel jump on button release. Perhaps it would feel better if you decreased acceleration and increased gravity. A bit more like Mario's jump.

Right now I feel like I'm hitting an invisible ceiling when I release the jump button. It actually makes the performing rather frustrating.

I'd personally disagree. I rather enjoy having full control of my jump height depending on how long I press the button.

It takes a little while to get it, but once it is mastered it is really effective.

The thing is the full press of the jump does have nice smooth physics. Having that not applied to the "shortened" jump doesn't feel right.

And the lack of easing out of the jump when shortening, will for the most part, give players a sense of less control, not more :|.

Anyways..., just a friendly suggestion.

I don't think they're going to be changing the physics of the most core element of a platform game, jumping, so get used to it.

Yeah... the precision jumping is much-needed at later stages of the game.

How does the jumping feel relative to these two games:

Super Meat Boy

Ori and the blind Forest

I want thsi game, answers to this question will really help out

Both the above have world class jump feel. This doesn't. The jump is shortened in a very abrupt and unnatural way. IMHO, it should be fixed to better match Meat Boy, Ori and yes Mario.

The jumping is very precise and I would honestly compare it to something almost like I Wanna Be The Guy or other fangames. You jump for exactly how long you press (up until your maximum jump height) and it feels pretty great, in my opinion. Floaty controls would only hurt the feel.

Agreement as well. The feel of the mechanics is one of Hollow Knight's core strengths IMO.

This is making me hesitate to buy. I've always felt the games that had the worst jumping mechanics had awkward timing on when you start to descend. Games usually get the jump correct, and mess up the fall.

All platformers have different kind of jumps. Meat boy≠Mario≠rayman≠Ori≠Splasher≠CS Kz map...
Need to find what suit the game, and it perfectly works in Hollow Knight, here we have to fight ennemies in air at melee range without touching them, so having the possibility to stop the jump by just not pressing an input is a good thing.
@Breath uh dua wild You have 2 hours to test it on steam for refund :)

I like the jumping. It is very precise but I am used to jump even when I am a little of the edge but that doesn't work at all so I always fly down into the swamp or spikes ^^

I'm going to agree with this as well. It gives me complete control of a jump and with precision as well.

I haven't played this game yet and I'll probably buy because the atmosphere is intriguing, but neither super meat boy, mario, or ori have imprecise or floaty controls.

Shadow Complex is a game where descent is fast relative to the jump and I enjoyed that game. If anyone here has played Shadow Complex, does the jumping feel similar?

I like it. Better than other platformers where you have so much momentum it's hard to to a precise jump. Yes, it takes a while to get used to but then it's pretty nice.
