i like oranges better though.
its pinapples...
If you like zelda (but more brutal), pixel art, atmosphere and personnal story (because the lore is reffering to the developper), take Hyper Light Drifter
If you like HLD's gameplay style of learning enemy patterns and responding to how they telegraph attacks, then Hollow Knight is definitely cut from the same cloth. Assuming you're a fan of metroidvanias, you'll probably get on well with it. The only real objective comparison you can make is that Hollow Knight is about three times longer than HLD, whether that's a positive or a negative for you.
I'd thoroughly recommend it, though. I enjoyed HLD and I adored Hollow Knight. They're both great games that scratched similar itches.
I easily prefer Hyper Light Drifter though.
It'd be like comparing the 2d Zelda games to the Metroid series, very much apples and oranges.
I am still playing Hollow Knight. Easily the best game to come out of the metroidvania revival in recent times.
Hyper Light Drifter I just refunded today after testing it for about 90 minutes.
I am so tired of games that try to appear profound by being needlessly obtuse. And knowing that the game is very short and only lengthened by the difficulty and hard to find "hidden doors" etc.
it did not seem to come even remotely close to the value that Hollow Knight offers.
artstyle didn't impress me as much as people made me think it would either, but I am over the whole 8 bit thing by now anyway.
