I heard that it is random, it censors different stuff with different ppl.
Use Shierke or sumthn.
(I wonder if anyone's made game mods that do that...)
All these censors do is teach people new words, to think the moniker/parental implementation was not enough... though, I'm not even sure how I'd turn that on/off...
Was kinda hoping someone knew how to turn off the filter (either by mods or option I missed)...
Well, since I already have the decompiler, I guess I can give it a go, though, I'm not really sure which .arc files to look into first...
So I supopose Capcom has this system figured out, it'll be a long time before someone will re-figure it out. Now, I wonder if one could simply remove certain words from some kind of censor library...
Yeah, or empty it... I'm thinking if I can get into the GUI of the chargen, I might be able to sort out where to go from there with some variable names, or some other references...
(I just took a look and found such files in nativePC/rom/gui, opened one up and found I can get the on-screen text at the very least, here's hoping I can get somewhere relevant...)
I suppose save editor makes things clearer?
Though, there may be more than just this one file I found... I'll do a test and see if I can get something to be un-filtered over the next day or so (for now, ZZZzzz). Assuming that works, I'm not sure where to go from there though...
FYI the one I found was in: GUIuGUICharacterEdit\etc\blacklist\character_name\character_name.bll
I have to ask. Is there a whitelist too?
Well, I haven't seen such a file/reference yet, but if there was one, it would have to be in a separate location from where I'm looking, either in the Rift Stone rooms or in whatever spawns wandering pawns outside/in towns.
I suppose such a thing could exist purely server side too...
EDIT on the 7th: Testing set back a day or two, if I can't test it myself in that time, I have a friend I'll shift file(s) to and have them test for me over the weekend, results on the 10th at the latest. T.T
That said, I did stumble into a 2nd blacklist folder with what appears to be the exact same file in it, located in the game_main arc file.
After removing the same entry from there, the game was no longer censoring the name "Schierke".
Victory!! :D
(I took a screenshot but decided not to bother uploading it, I'll upload it if requested)
That said, I'll be playing through a new character and seeing if there are any other moments in which the game attempts to censor the name, and if it does, I'll see what I can do to make that not happen. I'll also make sure that the character is accessible/uploadable with this modification.
As an extra note for anyone else wanting to make (or distribute) such a modification, the first time I attempted to mod the file in game_main my game was crashing on name entry. On my subsequent attempt, instead of removing the filter entry, I changed it to instead check for CCCCC, thinking it may have been attempting to validate the file's length/size or something, and it worked. It's not impossible that I just messed up the format/structure or something on that earlier attempt, but just in case that happens to anyone else, give this a try.
Considering I have no plans on uploading or distributing the modifications I've done so far, if anyone would like more or precise instructions on replicating what I've done, I can post an explicit step by step of the process. That said, anyone can do whatever they like with the information in my posts here, but I'm not responsible for your actions >.>
It just occurred to me that you might've meant a whitelist as in, NOT filter"Cassandra" to "C***andra".
But uh, no, I've still not seen such a file anywhere... it is a good idea though, and I'l post info if I see anything like that.
I guess one cannot expect a common sense from Capcom :|
