fatal error; failed open file
Hello,
I am playing on my 2. account and have had this issue now in my second game.
The game plays fine until I defeat the dragon and wish to enter any chamber in the EVERFALL. First time I stoodbefore the gate and it usualy shows you the name of the chamber you are about to enter. This was not the case and I was unable to enter, it would not triger anything and I just stood tthere.
Then did a reload of the game. Now it seemed I would be able to enter and the black loadingscree showed and.... it froze everything. Ctrl-Alt-Del. exit screen to Desktop.
Get this Error Msg:

Fatal Error
Failed ope file. C:\Program Files (x86)\steam\steam apps\common\DDDA\native PC\sc\DX9\stage602.spkg3.

Since I could no longer execute any quests set in the everfall, I just payed the 20 wakestones and finished the game against seneshall.

Then started a new game in harrd mode. Now I am at the same point again. Can't acces any chambers in the everfall.

I looked into the files posted in the Error msg. and found that they arenamed different. The DX9 folderr is in a folder named "sa" and not "sc" (which doesn't even exist) and the and all the stage files are *.arc and not *.spkg.

I always used nexus mods, which never was a problem, except it wouldn't let me start a harrd modegame. Then I simply switched the mods off, started hard mode and turned them bacck on again. That also never made any issues previously.

Ist there a way I can fix this? I do want to farm chests in everfall.
Iassume "stage 602" will be the everfall chambers.

Thanks.

Here's you problem. You have modified a game and it backfired.
Just cause you didn't notice any issues doesn't mean it was all OK. But you have finally noticed something and you know what's the cause.

You know what to do, purge the game of mods. No, not "switch off" (what that even means?), purge.
Do a clean install to be sure.

With "switched off" I mean "disabled" in Vortex Mod-Management.

I still would like some sort of explenation for the spkg3/arc, sc/sa file/folder problem.

And if I deinstall/reinstall the entire game, wouldn't that deplete me of all my gains/achievements of previous runthroughs?

When the game says that it cannot access specific file/s it means that whatever the game tries to do requires such files. 99.99% of such issues means that the game invokes a function added by some modification after modification has been removed. The rest of the cases involves that game files being corrupted - verifying game files' integrity solves this issue.

Can achievements get removed from Steam without very special means? I don't think so.

As for broadly defined gains: that all depends on whether your save will be compatible with the clean game or not. I don't see any reasons for it to not be, but be sure to backup the save just in case.

BTW I have heard a lot bad about Vortex. Basically that it only does a good job with Skyrim and you should expect issues when using it for other games. Re-consider installing modifications manually.

Thanks.
I disabled the mods and tried it again on both my accounts. Everefall is just F*ed up.
I also did a search on my Drive for "spkg3". No such files could be found. I don't understand the error msg. How can it fail to open a file, that never seemed to have existed in a folder that has a totally different name?
As for "achievements", I didn't mean the steam achievements, but rather my in-game progress and the loads of stuff I have gathered, purified, dragonforged ect. I don't want to start from scraps again.

Those files would normally be archived/packed inside game files. Don't expect to find them "laying around".

you really dont know how modmanagers work, but get passive aggressive.
modmmanagers dont remove the original files, they just emulate it for the game.

also you never heard of vortex i am sure. cause all your claims were wrong about how mod installation works.

but op is 100% in the wrong forum and rather should ask the modmakers or download the files manually and find out what they change to elimate the wrong one.
_________
tl;dr:
i am pretty sure you didnt check the description of mods.
for example
ddda cannot use multiple mods that use game_main.arc files without manually work.
learn how to merge these together and it will work.
edit: the files and folders you are searching are inside the arc files in the folder you found.
