Late Bitterblack Isle Mystic Knight Difficulties
I am currently in the home stretch of Bitterblack Isle and I am having quite a hard time doing damage against bosses without quad-stacking Conquerer's and Demon's Periapts. When I'm not fully Periapt-buffed, in fact, I'm so worthless that it makes me wonder if I'm missing some key element that is hindering my damage output.

I started off as Fighter and swapped to Mystic Knight basically as soon as I got to Gran Soren. I've spent most of the game in this vocation, aside from a spare couple levels gained as a Ranger or Magick Archer.

Currently my Strength stat on my weapon is 1608 (352) and my Magick stat on my shield is 1203 (324). I am using Dragon's Toll and Dragon's Faith, both dragonforged.

When I fight any kind of large monster, with the above stats, I do virtually zero damage to them no matter which skills I seem to use or in which combinations. I can buff myself with a Trance, put Abyssal Anguish on my weapon, drop three Great Cannons, and go to town, and the enemy's health bar doesn't so much as twitch. I'm whacking this business like my life depends on it and they're completely sandbagging me. Stone Forest does nothing. Holy Furor does nothing. We're not talking "just a little bit at a time", we're talking "the bar literally doesn't move".

If I buff myself with 4x each of Conquerer's and Demon's Periapts, I do fine. In fact, I do really well with the above combos. But as soon as they wear off, I'm back to zero. Is this normal? I can't believe that the game intends or expects you to quad-stack Periapts to do Literally Any Damage, so my conclusion is that I must be gimping myself somehow without understanding how.

Does anyone have any insight into this issue? I sure would like to be able to fight things without having to carry a hundred Periapts on me at all time.

I destroy things with 10 fold arrow... I'm not a big fan of Mystic Knight class escpecially with these insanely large bosses on the island

Well, stats growth rate of MK is really not very good, especially for Attack and Magick.

Aside from that, MK’s Great Cannon utilizes both Attack and Magick (of your sword or mace) with a ratio of 4:6. Therefore Dragon's Toll might not be the ideal choice for Great Cannon. You will be better off with an elemental weapon or try Abyssal Anguish + Blitz Strike combo (which uses Attack as primary attribute).

Also, BBI’s large enemies usually feature a high physical defense and a lower magick defense. It means Great Cannon with only 1608 Attack and 324 Magick will have a hard time breaking their damage threshold.

It probably depends on your lvl. I started bbi at lvl 80. No major issue until the last third of the isle. I played mystic knight all along. After 50 level, my set skill is ice enchant, holy enchant, ruinous sigil, magic cannon, blood moon ans abyssal anguish.

Abyssal anguish is always on. It's awesome. Blood moon is powerful and makes you invincible. Combine well Itj abyssal anguish. Depznding on the ennemy, ice or holy enchant + great cannon. Ruinous sigil against the mob with the hammer (minotaure). It stuns them. It activates the great cannon too if they overlap. Deadly on living armor.
Cyclops hate ice. Nearly everything hate holy.

Elemental wise the most useful ones I've found to use on BBI is Holy, Thunder and Ice all the ones don't have as much use and it seems like most of the end game support mages use the same 3.

You should spend some time as mage and sorcerer. Try and max out both vocations, as well as warrior, and then go back to MK.

What benefits do you actually get from first maxing out other vocations? I know there are a few augments that you can swap in, but still don't see the need to play mage/sorcerer if you want to play MK. MK can cast range, or be frontline. Isn't that the whole point of the class?

As MK is a combination Red/Blue class, it takes stats from your Fighter/Warrior and Mage/Sorcerer vocation builds. Your magic abilties, as a MK, will be much more powerful if you maxed out your blue vocations. MK will also benefit in physical stats from maxing out your red vocations. If you, for example, choose to max out the Stider vocation your MK would have an easier time grappling, climbing and holding onto enemies.

Take a look at https://stackoverflow.github.io/dragons-dogma-stat-planner/ and see how different levelling in different vocations can have a significant impact on your overall build.

This also gives you a good overview of how stats can affect builds http://dragonsdogma.wikia.com/wiki/Stats.
