Arousing Suspicion Quest. *SPOILERS*
So... I just finished this quest and yeah... What the ♥♥♥♥ just happened? Mirabelle tells me that Aelinore wants to speak to my in private in her chambers, I assume it's just a quest for me, however it forces this "romance" scene on me and then the Duke comes into her chambers, forcing me to hide and then he starts strangling her to death. I of course Interrupt the Duke and save her, I am then thrown into the dungeon and tortured until Aelinore comes to free me, then I just casually walk out of the castle (Infront of the guards). I then return to the Duke and he says "If it is work you want, seek Aldous." like nothing happened.

Hhaha yeah.. It's pretty weird. Guess he decided to be casual about the whole situation.

that;s not the end of the quest. She has her own ending

Yeah his face during that whole sequence was like he knew something weird was afoot

You guys are missing the point, I broke out of jail and the Duke couldn't careless. Even when I spoke to Aelinore she acts as if nothing happened... Is this just part of a bigger story or is it just terrible writing?

Well the Duchess seems to be quite the shameless harlot, maybe the Duke is used to be a cuck and simply stopped caring.

It's a little bit of both. Mostly bad writing.

It doesn't make sense and this is why i'll skip that quest in my next playthrough cause that ruined my game appetizer

The funny thing - the princess is still virgin.

The Duke probably can't make a scene in front of all those people around.

Judging by screams, the Arisen enjoyed the torture...

It's just a half assed scripted event that isn't linked to anything else. It's meant to explain why an upcoming event happened but because of how the conclusion of the rape incident is handled it just feels very disappointing.

Technically you're meant to escape through the secret exit in the jail but the game developers decided to straight up not make the guards throw you back in jail if they caught you so there's no reason at all to be stealthy about your escape and you can take whichever exit you want as a result.

The map marker is buggered on either the main Map or the Mini-map during the escape portion, it directs you to an unreachable location.

I don't think he remembers strangling her. He was drooling and going crazy and all. Part of a bigger story since he was having a flashback with his own encounter with the dragon (like how Feste notes how he was walking toward the chamber), but it doesn't give a good impression since the usual interaction with the NPCs involved don't change after the encounter.

Would've at least helped if Aelinore mentioned the weirdness.

I think this is the archetypal or "best" romance for a male character, as determined by the developers. There is a natural story/quest progression, and the final part (Manse) occurs just before the Final Battle, meaning you keep the affinity thing, and the ending seems quite "sweet".

Other dialogue options (with other potential romance partners) are more limited for male characters.
Are there even anything for female characters (straight ones)?

Reynard & Valmiro seem to be the two intended straight female romance options.

Of course, people have been getting Fournival and Caxton as their Beloved without even trying...
