In his twist of fate he blurted out a wish made in haste without realizing it. He becamed cursed by his wish and Orla was slain for it, but due to her being part pawn part mortal I assume because Grette was alive in some form, she was able to remain a spirit spectral seeking out help.
Some of the other writings refer to an Arisen who looked be there only to lure other arisens to the place in part of a pact to receive some kind of boon. 1000 human souls must be sacraficed for him/her to receive their boon. My assumptions are this is Barroch, being a roguish type who didn't care where they went after meeting the Arisens that came there. And the fact he was free to roam around the place unscathed like it was a real home for him. Just my assumption unless I find proof somehow :3
But this answers other lore which was hinted on by the wyrm inside the Altar of the Water God who speaks of talking to a fellow countryman in this form.
All in all, you must help undamn the stupid wish Ashe made, but even after doing so, there's still that power feeding the reincarted forms of the Daimon, wonder if you kill him 1000 times will he actually stay dead, maybe the 1000 souls are needed to maintain him?
