But you will miss the opportunity to meet his "treasure" starving in the slums - I consider this trade-off unacceptable;)
His "treasure"? You mean his daughter? Just because she was raised badly doesn't deserve her to get starving imho.
I thnk, it's more worthwhile to get Fornival free. It isn't obvious, if he did any crimes, that justifies jail, and even worse, death-sentence. The only evidence, I've found so far, is this secret list in his house. And just a fine for that is enough, imho. But since, you won't get such a judgement ingame, I get him free, every time.
BTW: To get the family off his land in his first quest, actually will save their lives...
Fournival is acquitted. If you do nothing, he goes to jail. If you turn in evidence that isn't what I listed, it lends to his conviction. If Jasper and co. stay in their current home, they ♥♥♥♥♥♥ die.
Don't bother with Reynard. Completely unnecessary.
BUT do a playthrough where you buy all his stuff first.
