Trial and Tribulations--Best Outcome? (Spoiler Territory, For Any New Players Who Haven't Completed This Quest Yet)
I've done this quest on Xbox 360 at least three times--and in the end, I always had Fournival tossed in jail.

Now, I'm wondering if that's truly the best outcome? Does anyone else have some insight into what I should actually do in the quest? This go-round, I managed to help Jasper and his family keep their home, so their testimonies aren't available (I never knew I could buy the deed to their house out of all the other times I'd completed that ques until last week, lol).

Anyway, just thought I'd fish around for thoughts and opinions on this one. Many thanks!

ETA: I wasn't certain which discussion forum this question would best fit in.

Well, you can make Forny acquitted of course. Is it better? Idk, depends on your stance on crime and periapts. Acquitted Forny will keep selling unlimited amounts of periapts, Maker's Finger and will add Magnanimous Cloak to his inventory.

But you will miss the opportunity to meet his "treasure" starving in the slums - I consider this trade-off unacceptable;)

His "treasure"? You mean his daughter? Just because she was raised badly doesn't deserve her to get starving imho.

I thnk, it's more worthwhile to get Fornival free. It isn't obvious, if he did any crimes, that justifies jail, and even worse, death-sentence. The only evidence, I've found so far, is this secret list in his house. And just a fine for that is enough, imho. But since, you won't get such a judgement ingame, I get him free, every time.

BTW: To get the family off his land in his first quest, actually will save their lives...

In the castle, talk to Fedel and get his petition. Then go out to Fournival's house and take the scroll from the desk next to him. Get one from Symone while you're there. Then go over to the big church and get a petition from the head priest there. Then go to the fortress to the north of Gran Soren and walk that soldier back. He's the only escort NPC that will sprint, I think, but he has heavy armor so it kinda balances out.
Fournival is acquitted. If you do nothing, he goes to jail. If you turn in evidence that isn't what I listed, it lends to his conviction. If Jasper and co. stay in their current home, they ♥♥♥♥♥♥ die.
Don't bother with Reynard. Completely unnecessary.

Throw the bastard in the jail for all I care.

BUT do a playthrough where you buy all his stuff first.
