How Can People Praise the Combat in this Game
It's just like... so bad and generic and boring.

i've played all AC and was a big fan of the game (until they finish the story of ezio in a comic book), and after you try to compare ac with this game... i can't say that anyone should even try to argument here.

Combat was created similar like in Devil May Cry....if you dont like style of combat where you need to combine spells and use combos with mouse and keyboard - wich is in Dragons dogma 1 not to much hard as in Devil May Cry ( for god bless) this game would not be your cup of coffee.

I am playing a mage and once you get some actual spells and skills the mage is really strong in combat. The magic is also very cool once you learn the upper level spells like creating tornadoes. I think the combat is great. once in battle you have to have a good team with varied skilled pawns and you can do well. They don't tell you if you stumble into a high level area, but you sure find out fast when the pawns say the enemies have the advantage. then it is time to leave fight and return once you are stronger. I think this games combat is way better than assassin creed. I was able to just hit buttons in assassin creed games. in dragon dogma there are certain keys to charge up certain spells and use certain skills. so you have to know what keys do what skill in this game or you die in combat.

If you don't aim to heal, switch to socerer asap. Sorcerer has better magic attack and -defens-growth. (by the same stamina and life-growth). f
sorcerer also has the "big bam"-spells. Especially bolide. But Seism and Maelstrom are awesome, too. Gicel is a "big-bam"-spells that can be aimed horizontally. (the only other is Ingle and upgrade.) Gicel also has a physical component. (this and Frigor are the only spells, which take weapon physical damage into account. I'm not realy sure, if your base physical also counts.) The other big bams only have physical through secondary effects. (Maelstrom thorugh falling, Blide have the impact. And for seism it's also the falling afaik.) But I believ those damages are fixed. (in comparison to frigor and gicel).
Sorcerer can also enchant, But I tend to let mages do that.

Dragon's Dogma combat has that feel of jank and style over substance all over it. I don't get the high praise either, it just feels like the average japanese arcade game combat and not something i would like in an rpg. Skyrim combat feels honestly more grounded and less button mashy.

If i remember correctly its based off the Devil may Cry 2 combat which people used to say was incredible back then. The combat is good once you get decent and can chain a lot of attacks together, jump on a beast and stab it in the eye and then flip off and slam your sword through the beast then do a blink attack to some other enemy and then juggle them in the air and flip back jumping and grabbing onto the beast and stab some more, the games combat is good, i think your just not very good.

we spotted the button masher haha
Guy probably mad it's not the same generic 'R3 to lock onto a target, B/O to dodge' system that plagues all the generic action games of today.

because this isnt your bayonetta, this isnt your power fantasy (at first). its slower, but far from clunky. is ds1 bad due to its feel? no, far from it. if you dont like a good combat system in your rpg , thats your problem, but skyrim isnt it

"It's not an interactive movie so it's not a real rpg. I can't even press F to win the game, how do I shot dopamine?"

In Skyrim hitting mobs feels like punching a wooden wall. Mobs have no reaction. It's slashing, moving away (when poorly-armored), slashing. It's so bad.

The player-character also lacks reaction to being hit.

The game also has no melee skills.

That makes Skyrim THE button-masher game.

You're finding something worse than reality (interaction-wise) better than this (at 09:49 in the video):

Skyrim's combat has as much substance as watered down juice, while Dragon's Dogma's is a protein shake.

Some people probably have no idea what vanilla Skyrim even plays like, they download the most popular mod packs without having a clue to what extent that change the game.

Vanilla is basic af, or maybe stealth archer is your all time favorite thing for some reason. Never detected, one shot every enemy, peak game design I guess.

Stealth archer just one of effective ways to win. Moreover, it becomes quite effective in developing character according to corresponding perks. Archer is chosen at high difficulty to safe combat, when each blow of enemy is dangerous, at average difficulty each class is viable.
DDDA similarly has weak classes, strong classes, exploits, and capabilities of oneshot of enemies.

It's so non-interactive. Apply skills to a single button, mash the button with the most powerful skill, win game. And against big enemies, you don't even do that. Just press RT and stab a guy 30 times until he dies.

No dodge, no parry, no combos. There's not even such a thing as strafing in this game because the controls are all straight forward or straight backward.
Maybe stick to souls
