BBI tips for a newbie?
this run is the first time i've ever actually made it to the post game (first played on the xbox 360 and somehow got past the dragon with gear that couldnt hold up against regular post game enemies), and i've never really tried BBI. so what should i expect? any tips on how to get started?

you'll want someone that can deal magic damage(probably holy). You probably want to look up how Death works. Other than that, depends on your class mostly. Also, beware when opening chests, make sure you have someone that can save you or you can save yourself,... or have some wake stones from everfall.

Get a bunch of throwblast i literally clean the whole island with them even daimon, you can go tru all the doors in the first floor of duskmoon tower using an exploit know as barrel glitch, easy 1 millon gold if you sell all exept the ring that gives you more discipline points, you can buy an item that gives you x2 xp when you kill any npc but you gonna use it on bosses only, rest 7 days to buy it again (if you play on hardcore it would be a x4 xp), try to get a purification weapon any would be better than what you are using probably (but you need to be lvl 50 something to use it without draining your stamina), learn how death works (he's a boss), get some softeners or cockatrice potions on you, you can check the ddda wikia on bbi that would help you a lot

There you go:
https://dragonsdogma.fandom.com/wiki/Purification
On the weapon front, you have some good options. Dragon weapons are the best on Gransys, but Everfall weapons can do in a pinch if you want to play another vocation. Assassins should head down to The Black Cat and buy the Force Hatchet. Its buff works on bows and lets you shred enemies you normally couldn't scratch. Iraklis and Caged Fury are also viable.

You might want to farm Ur-Dragon for Holy weapons. There is one case where you're required to have at least one source of magic damage. Offline Ur-Dragon drops swords, staves, and daggers and is much easier to kill, while Online Urdy drops all weapon types. It takes a while to get them upgraded into a usable state without needing Demon's Periapts, but in the long run it's handy to have a ghostbusting weapon while farming.

Wakestones are also a good reason to head into the Everfall for a bit. Urdy drops a lot.

There's only one shop on BBI, and it has a limited inventory. So next I'll cover some stuff you might want to buy while you're on Gransys. You can travel to and fro with no real hassle, mind.

To help you deal with tough opponents, buy Conqueror's and Demon's Periapts from Fournival. You can take 4 at once to over double your attack power; due to the damage formula, this can let you damage and kill opponents you normally couldn't scratch. Highly recommended. If Fournival's gone, head down to to Camellia's Apothecary in Gran Soren and buy Crimson Concoctions and Doses of Strength and/or Warlock's Draughts. These combine into inferior versions of periapts. Throwblasts are handy, but mostly for low level runs. If you're playing Strider/Ranger/Assassin, stock up on Blast Arrows.

Curatives: Potent Greenwarish is the most stamina-efficient heal available in bulk, but is relatively weight inefficient. Everfall merchants and Madeline sell Foreign Medicaments, one of the most efficient heals. The Everfall Merchants also sell Salubrious Brew, which is almost as good. You can use any spare Cloudwine and Curious Wine with Potent Greenwarish to make Matured Greenwarish. You can also gather Spring Water for AOE heals.

For stamina, Mushroom Potage from Fournival is a great party heal; give some to a Fighter pawn with Dragon's Maw or a Ranger with Great Gamble and they'll keep you topped up. Large Mushrooms are cheap and weight-efficient. You can buy scythes from the Black Cat to make Backfat Oil from all the pieces of meat you've gathered to this point. Besides being a decent stamina heal, Backfat Oil also can be used to make Lantern Oil with empty bottles. Pickled Mushrooms are meh by themselves, but stock up on them anyway.

If you have the Magnanimous Cloak (from Fournival), you can equip that on yourself or a pawn to spread your healing around. Do be wary of your Pawn's Nexus level if you use a Magnanimous Cloak healer; they like healing at low health and healing low health pawns increases Nexus.

Also buy some Monk's Periapts (more efficient than Panacea), a couple of Secret Softeners, and Panaceas.

Onto the Island itself.

There are two Notice Board quests that are extremely handy because they add useful items to the island shop. The first, Eyes of the Deep unlocks a few curatives and Rotten Bait Meat, which is used for farming. The boss that drops it (Gazer) does not respawn until you beat BBI once, so consider reloading if it doesn't drop an Abyssal Eye. The second, Accursed Errand, is a lot easier if you have buyable Rotten Bait Meat and lets you straight-up buy BBI Level 2 weapons once cleared. With these weapons upgraded you can fight most BBI enemies on even footing.

Don't be afraid to run! You only have to kill a handful of enemies to progress.

Some of the most efficient health and stamina heals can be gathered on the island - particularly Kingwarish and Cragshadow Morels. You can combine the Pyrepipes commonly found later on to make powerful and efficient Staminal Drenches; unusually, it's more efficient to carry both ingredients uncombined.

Gather up any and all items in Rest areas. Stuff like Throwblasts and tomes are put there for a reason; these items can help you deal with the next required boss if you're underleveled or have a bad team comp for it.

Moonbeam Gems are scattered about the island. Use these to unlock doors in The Duskmoon Tower to get some high tier stuff. Might want to use a map or guide to decide which doors to open, since some items are better for than others or only useful for a couple vocations.

Once they're available, try to keep a Liftstone on hand at all times in case things get too dangerous. Ferrystones don't work in BBI outside of the harbor.
- 1 Melee / 1 Caster at the very least. Some enemies can be immune to a specific DMG type
- Bulk up on items with infinite stock.
"Fournival" sells "Mushroom Pottage"/"Sobering Wine" for best teamwide stamina and debilitation cleansers.
"Camellia" has budget items, such as Large Mushrooms (Stamina), Potent Potent Greenwarish (Health), Balmy Perfume (Health-Teamwide), Blast Arrows. I recommend keeping 5-10 Teamwide healing items to heal chip damage before a boss battle. You will have access to all said items during post-game and perfume will require some affinity with Camellia.
- Dealing with Necrophages ( BBI Invading bosses ): Slow them down with Rusted weapons 3 star or above. If you're fighting death, pop up a sobering wine to resist his sleep attack, then stagger him to death with Blast arrows, by you, or by providing arrows to your bow user on demand. Most enemies can be Slowed down, except for a few, Death as an example.
- Have a 1-2 Wakestones for self insurance.
- Take your time exploring the zones and do not slay the final boss until you have scouted the area properly
- Farm Cursed Dragons for your Dragonforged equipment pre-final boss
- Check the Notice Boards INSIDE THE REFUGES not just the one near olra
- Save as often, etc...

EDIT: Sobering wine will also cleanse your team of debilitations
