Be sure to read the in-game manual, don't disable tutorial messages, read every item's and skill's description and listen to what your Pawns say.

Yeah avoid any guides or stuff so you won't spoil the fun to yourself, is better to just learn the bacics from the in game manual and play and learn by yourself :winter2019happydog:

Go blind, normal mod . Just remember to save too often and keep a tons of curatives.

Going blind is challenging and fun. Using a guide will often lead to spoilers and people telling you to use xp exploits which really ruin the fun of the game. Try to connect with the community though via discord, here, and reddit. It is the best gaming community I've ever been a part of. None have been more helpful or friendly than they

I agree with the people above, go blind and connect with the community.

Who needs a guide when you've got a map, a compass and three companions that won't stop talking?

"Wolves consult your map by falling from too great a height, Arisen."

Yes, I always love my convention hall when I'm trying to pick stuff up because the pawns won't stay out of my butt.

I disagree. So Ill post what i mean down below this. Dont read it if you dont want to.

====================================================================

The weight system SUCKS. If you are a smaller frame you will regen stamina faster, but have reduced carry weight. You can offset that by having big beefy pawns to carry your stuff, but then thats more clicking to access your stuff. And no access if the pawn is dead during a fight. Thus playing the biggest beefy fatso you can gives you a huge, slow recovering stamina bar and a lot of personal item space. But in a way, this is a reward and a reward atop a small incoinvienince. Because you can load that stamina bar up with consumables, and run out of stamina a bit slower to begin with. And some attacks like ranger attacks need more STA to drain for more damage done. Personally, i like faster regen and a smaller character that has a smaller hit box, but the weight and sta problems just pain me too much to want to deal with it. When you start putting on heavier and better armor, it almost seems like a NEED, you are FORCED to be a tubbo or face just being a snail. And there are definetly some jogging simulator parts to this game.

um no. Sinew (rank 5 fighter) solves carry weight, and leg strength (rank 9 strider) solves mobility with high encumberance. carry curatives period. no reason not to.

i did a pure magic character that is decent height (without being skinny) to get good regen without being a dwarf. and just used pawns inventory space because that is one of the things its there for.

you arent FORCED to do anything.

Edit: i like that the characters build actually has some impact on your character. it isnt just cosmetic. one of the most immersive things about the game.

I agree with Vin. While weight and stamina can be problematic these stats are not so problematic that the game can't be enjoyed if you have a main character (MC) and main pawn (MP) of default height and weight, regardless of vocation. If a player does run into problems with these stats with their MC and MP then, as Vin points out, there is sinew and leg strength. If these augments, for whatever reason, are not an option with MC/MP then there are plenty of pawns that can be hired that have these augments. I speak as a mage-turned-sorcerer (with strider MP) who didn't know that height and weight affected anything for probably my first couple hundred hours playing, and I didn't know about sinew and leg strength for maybe just as long.

As far as "jogging simulator parts" goes, if you're going to complain about that in this game then you should complain about that with probably every single open world RPG that exists. This game, or at least this version of the game, does have Portcrystals and (Eternal) Ferrystones to help offset that.

To me quest reward is an issue. It goes directly into your inventory and messes your stamina consumtion . imagine fighting a flock of snow harpies and packs of direwolves and suddenly "teeth of gold " arrives in your inventory. Now you are 11 units heavier. Your stamina can be pretty messed up if you are already running in average category and this makes you heavy, or the 60 skulls.
This overweight will cut your journey short and force you to return.

or you can hit the inventory key click the item and give it to the pawns. literally 3 item containers and you want to travel back? why?

Pawns use skulls fairly liberally, at least in my experience, so if you want to make sure that they don't then returning to town makes sense, but, honestly, skulls are littered about the game so I don't see that as a problem. Also, I find using skulls to be less effective than just killing stuff. Other items, however, might be more problematic, though aside from war drums I can't think of any. Excess weight brought about by stuff you just don't want in your inventory when you have practically zero control of it entering your inventory is pretty lame. Arguably, it would have been better if quest rewards went into your storage instead.

^^ this
But to your point , The skulls are needed for the arsemith quest where he demands 66 skulls. Curatives and boosters are also used by pawns very liberaly. Cant give them spring water/ mithidirate /panacea because then they will "heal all the wounded" or
"desperse the ailment" or "flush the toxins" etc.
Good luck giving them throwblasts or arrows..
