Trouble with A Troublesome Tome

I cleared out the first castle East of Gran Soren and then went to the second castle east of the Encampment . I climbed to the very top of the ruins and grabbed the Grimoire from the chest and went back to Gran Soren and talked to Steffen, but the quest did not complete. I looked in my inventory and that of my pawns and in my stored items - there was no Grimoire or Tome. I went all the way back to the castle and looked in the chest at the top of the castle again- no luck. Is this a bug or did I miss something? Very frustrating because it was a long tedious quest and I wasted two Ferrystones.

i don't remember ever hearing about this particular issue. you might be able to get this item from another player as a gift, worth asking for it.

as for your "two Ferrystones", you have an eternal ferrystone... it has infinite uses.

Salomet's Grimore. You want to search for this. Check the storage in Tools section.

Plus, see if you maybe have followed the Pawn advice and ordered a forgery at the Black Cat. And if you have lost the tome in some mysterious way, or somehow cannot remember using it, check out the Black Cat anyway - if this quest item was removed from the game you can buy it back (a forgery at least).

BTW Is it possible that you simply gifted the tome to Steffen? Also, are you before or after Come to Court?

I didnt do the part where i had to save Rowland. How do i acitve that cutscene and I already have the book

The quest take the grimoire from your inventory and give it to the NPC, and all you get is the thanks of the npc.... if you want to keep it for yourself you need to make a copy at the black cat first, that would give you the dialog option to hand the forgery instead of the true grimoire.
