What awesome items can you get early game that people miss?
Barbed Nails can be bought from Madeleine early on if you give her any kind of idol (gold/silver/bronze). They increase the amount of stagger/knokback from your attacks by 100 each. Magnanimous cloak can be bought from Fournival if he's found innocent to allow you to heal your party without having a mage. You can reach the Greatwall Encampment as soon the way to Gran Soren is open, allowing you to buy some mid-game armour (overpowered if you get it right away) early from the vendor there. Rusty weapons at tier 3 can be useful support weapons for inflicting debilitations. Is there anything else that people might miss on their first run through the game?

I found a Crossed Cinquedea (464) in a chest early on...never used it though. I went over to bbi at lvl 8 just to loot and it paid off.

I've felt that Rusted anything isn't that effective, especially bows since you lose a lot of physical damage to gain a very small amount of poison damage (20 hp every 6 seconds.. for 30-60 seconds.. its 200 damage.) Compare that to even a Pleached bow.. and you're losing out on like 300 damage *per hit* at 3 stars.. Personally I just use Plegic arrow with assassin, and theres your Torpor, and get to keep all the damage from better bows.

But there are a lot of good weapons to be had early. Pleached for example, is a level 25bow, and can be found in Soulflayer Canyon, and there are quite a few other goodies in there. I make a run for it right out the gate of Cassardis, level 3-5.
It isn't easy, and to get it takes about 30 minutes or more, and you just flat out run. Everythign will 1 shot you in there.

Rusted weapons also inflict Torpor at rank 3, which very few enemies can resist.

Then you can essentially slow down time :D

Basically what I did. From level 10 to level 100 was spent on BBI, grinding and grinding and grinding. And looting.

If you escort Ser Berne, he will give you Gryphic Victory longsword which is the best 2-hander until post-game. This quest is available at gran soren noticeboard if your affinity with him is high enough.
There are a nice pair of daggers (Signs of Valor) at Hillfigure Knoll with no level req. For those who need light armour there's Flutter Padding in a sarcophagus next to the northernmost healing spring, worth a combined trip with the daggers.

There's also the Kunai (dark damage daggers, level 20 req) on Leaper's Ledge in Soulflayer Canyon. Also there is the Terminal Gyre (best early game magic bow, level 14 req), Pleached Limbs (bow), Plucked Heart (archistaff) and Triple Tooth (2h hammer). Lots of nice stuff there and it's not hard to reach. As you're leaving Leaper's Ledge there's also a Gryphic Cloak, nothing special for stats but it looks awesome.

Best thing about Leaper's Ledge loot is that you can reset the RNG super-fast by just jumping off the edge, even quicker than godsbaning.

Oh and once you've got what you want from Soulflayer Canyon, keep going through since it's a shortcut to Greatwall Encampment, where a bunch of mid-game armour is on sale right from the beginning. Aaaaand the Silk Lingerie is available nearby in the Ruins of Heavenspeak Fort.

I've not done this run, but in theory the first part of Bluemoon Tower should be accessible from the start, there are some decent pieces of heavy armour there (Gryphic Gauntlets, Chimeric Sabatons) and the ever sexy Silver Chestplate.

On the way to Bluemoon Tower is Smuggler's Pass, which needs skeleton keys (I can think of two immediately available in Gran Soren though). Quite a bit of loot down there; Malignance (ice greatsword), Caladbolg (lightning 1h sword), Black Matter (2h hammer), Bardiche Daggers, good shields both magic and normal.
