Quest cancelled: Is this BAD?
I noticed upon completion of a certain main story quest that one of my other quests I had presumed a simple side quest was cancelled.

I forget the quest names but it was the quest to find out where Quina had gone off to, I just completed the quest for the Gran Soren Pawn Guild to look inside The Everfall for the first time, and it cancelled right after I finished

So since this game only wants you to have the one character and save scumming isn't really a thing... how serious is having a quest cancelled? Does that mean I failed it and can't ever resolve it? How many quests in the game can be cancelled this way? I certainly don't want to miss out on content!

It means you may have closed off a questline, which means no "The Hero" achievement on this playthrough :D

It's all good, you can pick the quest up next playthrough - you don't have to do every single quest on every single playthrough.

For example on this playthrough I am deliberately risking missing a quest to control my choice of post game waifu - I have done 3 full playthroughs and want to stay in the end game for a while this time.
Well, Valmiro's quest line ends with some nice rewards like a 'hydra gallstone' ...Dying of Curiosity and Farewell Valmiro and they might be needed for the "hero" achivement ...Not talking to the Duchess when prompted cuts that quest line too...

I will keep an eye on potential missable sidequests in the future, I'm currently looking at ideas for new characters, but I am curious.

Is this the worst of the missable sidequests or are there others that significantly lock you out of content as well?

Yes! You will miss a rare upgradeable mats in the game but don't worry you could still fully upgrade your item just by killing a dragon in the game. The quest you miss have rare mats in that location. Best 2 romanceable npc can be found in that quest you miss due they have some extra dialogue in the main quest but you can still romance some npc in the game. Romance in the game is so dull and its ok to miss them in my opinion.

Some side quest have merchant that could give you med gear and enchanted gear.

This is called a Japanese Role Playing Game.

It has this thing called, Missables.

Nah, I call it a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ pain in the ass. The game gives you no indication that you can fail a quest by doing other quest with no connection to that one. If you want to tell me that I "waste" time by not doing it right away, then it's even bigger BS as there is another quest that is time limited, but that one at least tells you that you only have a certain amount of time left.

THIS.

I also had the "lost and found" quest failed at some point and somehow. I did not give that much importance, since i had so many quests ongoing...
Now I miss all the chained Quests and would be really boring to restart. I usually just finish games once.

I hate this 'missable' thing. It is nice what they did at the Duke, he clearly tells you that the 4-5 quests linked to him will be canceled so you can wait.

Could't they have done the same with the witchwood quests?

Another example, the weapon shopkeeper in gran soren tells me that he wants an idol. Ok, i remembered i had an idol...good, just take it, mission done! ooops...too bad it was a bronze idol and if i gave the gold idol, his stuff would have been much better, and i can't even go back to him to give him the gold one when i get it (if i do not miss that one as well) and he will sell crap stuff for all the game. Nice.

I would like to play games without checking online all the information (it spoils much of the fun), but that often lets you miss many...err...missables

Developers, please consider this for the future.

Thank you

If you just spoke to Barnaby, you can avoid the quest from being cancelled. If you have the Eternal Ferrystone in your possession, use it immediately. Do NOT approach the exit.
Yanno, Elvar stopped you dead in your tracks as you left the Encampment and told you that she was missing, and that you needed to talk to Adaro to start the search.

You chose to go off and do other things than look for your childhood friend. Time marches on, and you earned the consequences of your actions.

All that said, re-start the main quest. If the player switches from Normal to Hard Mode, the campaign starts from the beginning with your Arisen, pawn, all accumulated inventory and pawn knowledge intact (and bonus, you'll get another use of the character editor for both). It will not take very long to get back to entering Gran Soren, because the memories of doing a handful of things for the Main Quest are fresh in your mind. Don't want to stay in Hard Mode? it's just a toggle in options, and nothing changes other than the rewards for Hard Mode are no longer available.
