If they chnaged game play items now then the console players would complain and they would have to patch those versions as well.
You have to go into your inventory to use anything anyways.. who cares if it's in your inventory or your pawn's inventory?
Yeah, I went into Dripstone Cave and my main pawn smashed every single crate and barrel in the place and went on a looting frenzy. Gathering points aren't off limits either.
See, I like the looting game in an RPG, as its a staple in the genre, and I think DD:DA truly caters to the explorer in any RPG player who thrills to seeing a treasure chest hidden behind a boulder and wants to open it to see what's inside...not stand back and watch an AI companion say something like "what's inside?" and open it for that player and rob that player of the thrill of doing it him/herself. Now for many that may not be a big deal, but for a lot of us it is.
Not it could be argued that a lot of items in the game are just crap and one doesn't need to be so anxious about looting...period. But I just so happen to enjoy the "combining items" feature in this game, and discovering the outcomes of those combinations. So ultimately, I'll be the judge of what is crap and what isn't.
As for inventory management...I guess if you don't pay attention to your pawn's inventory or you don't clean up inventories (or worry about over-encumberance) period then it might not be a big deal for you. Guess I'm just an organizing type of Arisen. ;)
And that's another thing: I really wish they would've implented manual sorting in the game. With as many items that exist in the game, this would've been a nice feature.
+Saves time and effort for player (+1)
+Saves Player Carry Weight (+1)
+May See things the player might have missed (+2)
+Pawns Get hit with loot traps instead of player (+2)
Con's:
-Pawns can smash important crates & barrels you may have needed to reach certain hidden areas (not kidding, they exist) Which means you have to know where they are and kill your pawn to solo back without them. (-2)
-Pawn looting is unpredictable and slow, they may skip over blatantly obvious loot while you are waiting for them to grab it. (-1)
-Pawns that know where traps are, skip over the trap boxes which can lead to the player getting frustrated and attempting to loot it unaware of the danger (they don't warn you either) (-2)
- Did i mention that pawn looting is SLOW SLOW SLOW SLOW !!??!! They feel the need to stand there and talk about it for a long time before they move over to it and talk some more before finally picking it up, and then chat about it some more again.... in the time it has taken you to loot an entire room, your lucky if they have looted a single chest. (-1)
-- They may waste items they get, and / or fail to use them at all when they should have. Even to the point of not using that Entire party healing item to save your life, even as they scream "I'll protect you" (Liars) (-2)
Totals:
Pro's +6
Con's -8
Net worth of Pawn Looting -2 Not worth it.
Not all pro's and con's included, but enough to believe that even after all has been included the meaning behind the score will remain less than Zero.
