That set can be purchased in the Quarry, or at the Greatwall camp.
The Quarry can be unlocked quite early - I just unlocked if before doing any of the Wrym Hunt quests on my my recent playthrough.
If you aren't playing on hard mode, you may not have the gold to buy the better gear. Goblins who drop 10k make you rich rather quickly :D
So....when I said "armor you get POST-GAME," that isn't when? Bitterblack isle is whenever you have strong enough stats for it which is something that is learned very quickly, and the other "best" armors are found post-game.
You could pretty much play the game from the start up to "the Final Battle" relying on armors you'll find from vendors 10 minutes after the game started... And yeah, that includes some of the DLC crap in your storage.
Hilarious :D I never used any of those full body suits, especially not the Princess outfit.
I did use the BBI Vest and BBI Robe until I could afford decent chest pieces.
