When will I find better armor than Voldoan?
I've been enjoying the game so far for the most part and have been using the Voldoan armor set that you get from storage at the first inn. I'm level 21 now and I keep checking vendors for better armor sets (though I've never seen a full set) and I also look at the individual armor pieces, adding up their defense stats to see if they are better than this starting set, but they never come close.

So I'm wondering when I'll find or have the ability to buy better armor. Not that I mind the Voldoan set which I believe was originally DLC, so I'm not surprised it has good stats for a starting player like me. However, in a game like this where the option to customize your look with better armor is available, I'm curious when I can expect to change my character's apparence while having equal or greater stats than this starting set?

Thanks!

Armor you get from post-game and Bitterblack Isle is much much better. Melorian is probably the best armor in terms of defense without Bitterblack Isle sets. The Bitterblack sets are awesome. Immortal armor heals you and has good defense, the Sin armor set can have random effects on it (healing among them) and is strong. The Hellfire armor set is the strongest armor. For best results, talk to Barroch to rarify your armor/weapons/clothing.
Around when you can start collecting Chimeric/Gryphic armor sets and whatnot is when those will be better than stuff like Queen's/Voldoan/etc. You'll probably need most or all of a set though. Otherwise Everfall stuff, Melorian, BBI armor, those will all do the trick too.
Neither of you suggest WHEN, only WHAT.
You can get better armor pretty early on. I can't exactly say when, as I am unsure, but the problem with all the outfits in the storage box is that they're just that, outfits. They cover all equip slots. If you start collecting/buying armor for each individual slot and upgrading each armor piece, you'll quickly see that outfits are damn near pointless, and are only useful early on when you have no resources.
I had a full set of Gryphic (with a Harpy cloak sadly - stupid RNG on chests :D) quite early.
That set can be purchased in the Quarry, or at the Greatwall camp.

The Quarry can be unlocked quite early - I just unlocked if before doing any of the Wrym Hunt quests on my my recent playthrough.

If you aren't playing on hard mode, you may not have the gold to buy the better gear. Goblins who drop 10k make you rich rather quickly :D

So....when I said "armor you get POST-GAME," that isn't when? Bitterblack isle is whenever you have strong enough stats for it which is something that is learned very quickly, and the other "best" armors are found post-game.
When: when Chimeric and other armor sets around that quality such as Gryphic, Red Leather, Dalmatica etc become available. "When" changes depending on how much you do before the story beat that puts them in shop inventories because they can be found in chests in out of the way locations. Have fun with your "when," Nic, cuz I'm not gonna get more specific than that.
When you are mentally ready to give up the armor you didn't need to work for — you will find better armor.
Frankly while weapons make a massive difference (and you don't have any in storage, luckily) before "Post-game" and BBI I didn't notice significant improvement over armors progressing. It was mostly very marginal increments.

You could pretty much play the game from the start up to "the Final Battle" relying on armors you'll find from vendors 10 minutes after the game started... And yeah, that includes some of the DLC crap in your storage.

Hilarious :D I never used any of those full body suits, especially not the Princess outfit.
I did use the BBI Vest and BBI Robe until I could afford decent chest pieces.
