Mystic Knights and shield skills.
Just wondering how others are playing their mystic knights. I've generally avoided shield skills as I haven;t felt a need to use them yet, although I do kind of feel like I'm missing one of the biggest points to playing a mystic knight. With Abyssal Anguish and a Trance skill I can never seem to justify the time it takes to charge a shield skill as well. Which shield skills are worth carrying around and when would they be useful?

Yeah, I;ve been playing mostly physical myself and generally only use cannons for airborne enemies and bosses due to charge time, but I still haven;t found a situation where I;d rather block instead of using one of my weapon skills.

It's just a different kind of playstyle, Getting a perfect parry will force a stagger on whatever tried to hit you, letting you knock them off balance easier too. Along with the satisfying camera angles for the magic parries. Mystic Knight is the class with the most options for playing defensively focused in the game, and considering you can counter ranged and magic attacks. Also, if you really want to get exploitative, Perfect parries while standing in front of a magic cannon launch enormous amounts of magic shots.

You can also perfect parry your allies' magical/projectile attacks, too.

Perfect block is amazing. I usually enchant my shield with fire, since almost everything is weak against fire. Might be good to run around with a holy enchanted shield in BBI though, I think most enemies are weak against holy, but I'm not sure.

Most enemies are weak to Dark, especially human bandits, lol.

Perfect blocking can be really effective:

That does look pretty fun.

Maybe I;ll try it with ruinous sigil and great cannon some time, but I find that build to be a bit too stationary for my liking. Thanks for the tip.
Mystic Knight is a class i kinda refer to as a "Walking Fortress" because most of it's abilities are stationary, and it takes a while to set up, but they have great control over the battlefield. It's kind of the class's blessing and curse- it's not super fast and mobile, but it can basically turn into an impregnable tower of magical traps with magical gatling turrets on top, blasting anything trying to hit them away with counter magic.

Dark inflicts Torpur though. Its actually fantastic.

That's one I;ve thought of using myself, but weaker enemies generally die by the time I;m done charging my buffs. Is it useful vs bosses? I can imagine holy fortress being useful in boss battles, maybe I'll carry that one around.

Torpur is defo useful. Things get a lot easier against bosses moving at you with half speed. It's why pawns with rusted weapons are highly sought after (or at least they were in console and will be when more people on PC realise this).

Their attacks become easier to dodge which means you are less likely to get hit + can spend more times damaging enemies instead of dodging.

why?
im genuinely curious

They slow down. So for creatures with high agility or flight capability, such as Dragonkin or Gryphons, Torpor makes them a lot easy to setup a strategy or attack weakspots.

This is why you alway carry a rank-3 Rusted Weapon, because the inflict both poison + torpor.

the only issue is that most of the time enemmies wil be dead before torpur kicks in.

I'm partial to the flame riposte, perfect blocking a bandit ranger's arrow will send a barrage of fireballs his way.

Ok the build i use is a mixture of the sorcerer, assasin, warrior, augments for my mystic knight for boosting equipload, mag + phys attack, decrease casting speed. For weapons it depends, if you want phys damage go virge of madness if you want magic & damage go for cursed light & shield is diabolic shield. armor is dragonroar, abyssinal coat(works for me) / golden belt, abyssinal bracers, abyssinal greaves. the first two armor are the best choices but for gauntlet & shoes thats up to you. For cape im trying to figure(NOTE: white hawk cape is REMOVED).

I wouldn't recommend using a dark block to inflict torpor, just carry around a rusted sword/ mace and inflict that. Torpor is the most useful debilitation in the game, it's a little game breaking but there's literally 6 (7?) enemies in the game immune to it, heck it can be proced on daimon's first form. My first playthrough I did mystic knight, I can't really remember much other than feeling underpowered and fat. My biggest gripe with the class is that if you don't have one of the three good enchanted swords/maces it kind of sucks since it plays as a hybrid of magic and strength. The fat part was probably playing without leg strength more than the mystic knight... but they are kind of slow comparatively

I wonder if you guys play with a sword or a staff?

I find myself preferring the sword most of the time, buffing it with a shield skill and then uppercutting everything into the air. Now and then, when I want to cast some fireballs or lighting, I tediously switch to the staff via the equipment menu. Is that intended that way?

I kinda miss my dark souls knight, who ran around with a zweihander, but could shoot some soul arrows whenever the situation called for it. Going through menus to change equipment really interrupts the gameplay flow.

i carry on a holy buff for my weapon, a dark skill with anguish on it that extends blade length i find VERY usefull (it stacks with weapon buffs like your holy one).

So having both at once, im able to take out 2 hearts of an ur dragon nearly at the same time smacking it, which is nice.

Other then that, some wall skill cause sometimes it helps.
