Best main pawn vocation for strider/assassin
What should my main pawn's vocation be if I'm a strider or assassin? I only use my main pawn, no other pawns

I prefer a mage, using the right element is very handy and the bonus defense/stagger resitance is welcome, plus they can still use some decent offensive spells.

If you plan to only use that pawn, I'd say Fighter or Warrior. They gain a lot of HP per level and your main damage really doesn't come from stats anyway after you get into BBI. Not to mention it's something else for the enemy to hit and they'll stay alive longer if (when) you're swarmed by enemies.

Your pawn plays best when it is the same/similar vocation as you, as it mimicks your movesets.
If it helps at all, I've seen people use Ranger pawnsm but unequipping daggers, designating their role in combat as powerful longbow archers to support you.
I would say get a mage first then change to fighter later after you got some decent elemental weapon from BBI. Weapon Enchantment is very very important.

I've been using Fighter and it's been OK so far. What's the difference with Warrior? Also, I forgot to mention, I don't want to use a mage/sorcerer because I don't like their appearance.

The best would be a mage/sorcerer or a strider that would learn from you. Personally i like my main pawn to be a sorcerer if I'm not one because you can switch out affinity/spells when you need to. Finding a good mage with the best set of spells for a specific enemy can be a pain.

The main difference is the slots. Fighter has 3 for shield and 3 for sword, while Warrior only has 3, period. On the other hand, you're also looking at their stats, which Warrior gains a bit more health and strength, but the Fighter gets a little less of both to gain Stamina. That is, of course, reverseds at level 100+, but there's no point in thinking about that right now.

All-in-all, the Warrior will end up doing more damage, have more health, and won't waste stamina blocking. The trade-off is the limited skill slots, the general uselessness of the skills in general, and the lower Stamina. You can make a burley pawn with maxed muscularity and size, but it looks weird and isn't really role-playing-esque, in my opinion.

The Fighter, on the other hand, will gain enough Stamina to stay grappeled for a bit longer, will have no problem drawing the enemies to it, and will be able to stagger the ones that are numerous. Things like Blink Strike and Full Moon Slash are almost musts pre-BBI. The Fighter will end up being faster than the Warrior, allowing you to switch off between enemies easier.

Also, I don't recomend Mage or Sorceror. Yes, they're nice and handy to have in general, but you're going to be going at it with just two characters. The Mage won't be able to channel very well at all. That's really the main problem. You'll have the elemental damage advantage, sure, but you're going to be picking up that sack of meat every 15 seconds when the wind blows slightly north and knocks him over.

I'll try warrior for now then, my pawn never grabs onto anything anyways
