Really now, holy focused bolts are just insane. Homing, piercing, no stamina cost, fast, high damage, can be used from afar, can be charged while moving/jumping/levitating, hit multiple enemies.
Frankly I feel sorc spells take far too long to cast even with agument and wyrmking ring, not to mention leaving you as vulnerable as a newborn kitten while and sometimes after casting as well.
Nah, I started a new game as Fighter. It's not only him. To make damage with your staff, you always have to boost it with an element, first. That's an annoying concept.
And the second feeling about the mage was, that he has to be far, far away from the actual combat, otherwise he got his ass handed on a silverplate in mere seconds.
It surprises you that not using magic as a mage sucks.
You do need a pawn or two dedicated to keeping you safe while casting. Charging takes time without spell synching, but pays off once you get the spell off.
