Question About Movement Speed
I'm really enjoying DDDA so far, but I do hve one small concern: character movement speed seems to be glacial when traversing the world.

I've reduced my character's carry weight to the "Very Light" state, and even with their weapon sheathed, their walking speed is more akin to the sort of slow shuffle you see in folks meandering about a shopping mall. Am I missing something here, or is this the default movement speed?

I've checked my controller's deadzone on the analog sticks, and that's not the problem. The character actually -does- move faster when the stick is tilted diagonally forward (left/right) instead of straight ahead, but when the stick is pressed straight ahead, the character just sort of pokes along as if he's out for a Sunday stroll.

Any input on this would be greatly appreciated.

yes it is normal... google nexus mod dragon's dogma... there is a mod for this to fix.

your characters weight and possibly height factor into your movement speed.

Sounds like a controller problem, you don't move FAST when not sprinting but you don't move "glacial".

I may be exaggerating a bit; the overworld traversal speed is pretty frustrating, though. As I said, I've already checked my current controller against deadzone problems, and I've plugged in three others (one just out of the box) to double-check (both my wife and I game, so we have a fair bit of peripherals lying around). The speed doesn't change.

I'll check into a mod later, but for now, I'll just accept that my character would do better to get a Rascal scooter than trying to move under his own power. ;)

Check any gameplay videos for what the normal run looks like, your description doesn't match my experience.

if you think its a controller problem try moving with a keyboard and mouse only. You pretty much need to sprint every where. You don't walk fast.

Taller characters have a faster walking speed in the game but your desciption sounds like a controller problem.

My character's very tall, with a middle-weight build. He's also a Warrior, currently (I just started the game yesterday for the first time).

What I'm running into is that it feels like he's strolling, rather than walking at a brisk pace. It's not as if it's a framerate issue or anything of the kind (I'm cruising at about 70-80 FPS, even in high-intensity sequences), it's just that his movements feel labored. That actually -may- be due to the slightly more realistic nature of the game, because he moves swiftly enough in combat--but traversing the world feels like he's moving at about half pace.

I'll try KB+M a bit later, and report back on whether there's been an appreciable change.

The problem is the animation. Bigger characters move faster when not sprinting, but because they're bigger their movement is animated to look slower to compensate for their size so they don't look ridiculous while moving, and so that they feel as big as they look. It's a common thing in just about any game that lets you pick characters that can have varying sizes like this. MMOs are a common place to get this feeling like the difference between Gnomes and Tauren in World of Warcraft (they don't move at different speeds, it just looks and feels like they do because of their sizes).

I noticed there is an animation change in the way you walk in Gransys or the Encampment vs being in the outside world. Is it purely just an animation change to reflect you are more on guard when in the open world vs the safety of a town?

I have the exact same issue. When I press directly forward on the analog stick my character moves quite slow, a few degrees in either direction and they move significantly faster.

I found a fix in that my PS4 controller doesn't have the issue. But the UI doesn't display buttons correctly when using a DS4.

What I've noticed is that when I'm in walk mode, it's too slow. When I switch to regular mode, it's too fast. Run is like comically fast, but it's nice in combat. But yeah, the slower walk speed should be faster and taking it off, but not running, should be slower. It's not balanced at all.

Using K&M.

I noticed the same thing, and I've never had a problem with controller deadzones in any other game.

This describes what I'm dealing with. My character moves pretty quickly in town, but in the field, he leads with his shield shoulder forward, sword hand back, even when there are no enemies in sight and his weapon is sheathed. I can understand cautious movement when enterting combat, but when traversing an open field, it seems a bit much.

Yes I have the exact same problem even though my carry weight says "very light" I move along like I am one step away from going to the medical store to buy a walker...lol

In town movement is normal, out of town it is like I am over weight but it says "very light" so whats the deal here? Do I need some mod for this?

My character moves like lighning everywhere. I do usually have ultra-light encumberance but that should make hardly any difference.
