Yea, this bothers me as well, it seems that there is none...

There isn't with most skills. The mage skills have a lock-on type mechanic, but everything else is pretty free form. You get used to it fast.

If you are not a ranged class then no

Its pretty much like an action game, think Devil May Cry. It takes some skill and you'll get real good at it over time. After 100 hours when you go back to a game like Skyrim (which I like) you will think the combat in those games are horrible compared to this.

certain skills lock on to the closest enemy, while others you have to aim with. No auto-lock on in this game. git gud!

and flying enemies are your bane if you can't aim.

Git gud? I was asking about a lock on feature, how has that anything to do with being good?

Because lock on is generally a noobish mechanic replacing aiming skill

There is a lock-on when you have shield up and close to enemy at least.

Really? It's a third person game, and you speak about aim when I'm wielding a shield and sword...

Well, yes and no. Pretty much all attacks and abilities have some form of assist. With melee, there's no hard lock-on but there is definitely an assist such that if you strike while close to an enemy your character will automatically turn to land the blow even if you're not facing the right direction. When it comes to bows there doesn't appear to be any auto-aim but the hitboxes are absolutely enormous. For example, if you miss an enemy by a fair amount the shot will often still hit (hit boxes for normal sized enemies seem to be about 50% bigger than the actual character model). And when it comes to spells you've got full blown lock-on. You can switch targets or target different parts of a boss but there's a hard lock and no real escaping that.

Unfortunately, this game was designed for consoles and as a result a lot of the combat was dumbed down for a controller so it's nowhere near as free form as some people here seem to be claiming. It's not horrible, but it's definitely simplified.

Charnel Jan 15, 2016 @ 8:58pm
Yeah..it is noobish, if I had it my way it wouldn't exist in games you should have some actual skill not rely on easymode mechanics
