What came before this game?
The Steam store says "The next exciting chapter in the Dragon’s Dogma franchise"

So what game came before it? Could somebody link it up on Steam please. Thanks!!

That being said, was the first game a good one? Are you excited to buy this one? What sort of RPG is it? More open world old school, or more like Diablo hack and slash?
I'm very excited to play. The demo alone on the old 360 version made me fall in love with the game, but that was right before I gave my consoles away. There was nothing I'd played in years that was as fun as climbing on top of that gryphon and trying to hang onto it midflight.

So just judging by my experiences with the demo, yes, it's a very good game. It's not like Diablo, more like Monster Hunter, with bits of Shadow of the Colossus mixed in, and maybe a bit of Kingdom Hearts.

Look at the top seller list

To address the main question, this is for all intents and purposes the main game. This just contains the expansion ASWELL as the main game.

There is no FIRST game but there is "Dragons Dogma" which is just this game minus the expansion.

Basically you have Dragon's Dogma as the original release, then Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen which is an enhanced re-release of Dragon's Dogma and now Dragon's Dogma Online which is Japan only. Fingers crossed we'll see Dragon's Dogma 2 at some point...

This IS the first one. Dark Arisen was just an expansion / remaster on consoles. This PC version contains the base game, all the DLC, and a bunch of new stuff.

Aight, thanks!

So what type of RPG would you say this is? Worthwhile to buy?

It's a pure action RPG with bits of Monster Hunter and Dark Souls and Shadow of the Colossus (climbing on giant monsters)

An action RPG where the night is actually dark and you have to be careful

OP - Technically this is the third release of this game. There was the original Dragon's Dogma. Then there was Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen. Now we have the port of Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen with all the stuff bundled together, better graphics, 60fps, ect for a lower price.

Ahh dang, I was hoping this wasn't an "action RPG". To me, those aren't true RPGs. A true RPG lets you explore the world, move around wherever, has true story telling and development, etc. Not button mashing and bouncing around.

A lot of people like action RPGs. Just not me :)

In most Action RPG's you explore the world, move around wherever and have story telling and development.

No, this is not a classic D&D RPG if you are asking that. Do you like Dark Souls?, you will like this.

Could you give some examples of what you consider a true rpg?
