FRIEND EVERYONE = friends=free pawn rentals

anyways, just a reminder. please friend me so i can rent your pawns for free. er i mean so you can rent my pawn for free :D

just to explain: pawns in this game are the npcs that join your party. you can make one and then you can "rent" up to two more so that you have a party of 4.

if you want to rent pawns above your level, it costs rift crystals, which are notoriously hard to get and rare, even in the post game content.

renting out your pawn will net you rift crystals if someone borrows your pawn. and many people can borrow the same pawn.

becoming "friends" will make renting of pawns FREE. so friend up everyone in sight in this thread and lets save rift crystals together ;o


brotip:

1. use browser version of steam
2. middle click each person's avatar on the left to open lots of tabs
3. ctrl+tab to switch windows
4. click on add friend, dont bother closing the popup window its part of the page
5. click ctrl+w to close tab and repeat until tabs are done.

its fast. VERY fast and you can add everyone.

2 inclinations are visibnle to all to see. and the third is only visible at a knowledge chair

Within the thread you can talk to your hearts content about the pawn, etc. peopel who have borrowed it can comment and otherwise a real discussion can be had with regards to your pawn.

We may not need to shorten the class name, it all depends on the player name, etc. good rule of thumb is to just try out your title and see if its legible and if not. EDIT IT and clean it up!

steam lets you necro posts from whenever, posts don't calcify in these forums, its great.

at some point we may want to agree on simple words to describe the skill1,2,3 . for now we should agree to use what the game itself displays in shorthand form... i packed away my ps3 so i can't readily check right now.


Anyways onto PAWN INFO

few pointers:

0. pawns pickup gear and place it in their inventories automatically. that loot is ALWAYS yours, don't worry about rented pawns stealing items. they only steal items if you FORCE them to equip the item, and there are plenty of warnings when you do so.

1. pawns learn to do "stuff" over time, so if you are a thrower, they will learn those behaviours

2. some pawns have participated in a quest or a monster killing session enough times to know nothing (0 stars) to everyhing (3 stars). looking / advertising these traits might be important to you when renting pawns.

3. your personal pawn's inventory and equipment can be fiddled with to your hearts content. however you can only place items in rented pawns inventories freely. if you equip anything on them, it becomes a gift to the master of that pawn when you send it back. you cannot "take" items from a rented pawn

4. try and learn which inclinations suit your playstyle best and try and pick pawns with similar inclinations or supporting inclinations. .. im sure we will be discussing this at length over the next few months :D

5. pawns come back with a variable amount of rift crystals, some feedback from the renter and potentially 1 or more items if they were feeling generous. in order to "get" your items and crystals. you need to be (a) in online mode (check settings) and (b) rest at any inn. the conditions seem to be whenever the person is finished using your pawn and dismisses them. so sometimes if you had someone renting your much higher level pawn, you wont get a return for a while, but wh en you do , it will be a huge rift crystal bonus . rift crystal returns always seemed to be based on how long the pawn was rented for .. i could be mistaken.

6. possibly most important tip: friend people! if you use a pawn from a "friend" it costs 0 rift crystals. otherwise there is an exponential increase in the rift crystal cost of renting a pawn for each level above your arisens level. If you are still early mid game you may not realize that rift crystals have a use other than pawn fiddling... there is some post game content that relies heavily on amassing rift crystals. so don't waste them on hiring pawns. try to friend the arisens then you can rent for free! feel free to friend me. i should be playing the game hardcore after the 20th

I don't blame folks at all. Normally, it's definitely preferred to wait a couple of months for a decent sale/patches, especially on a game that's gone years before getting to PC. $30 certainly isn't bad - but I can see why that ratio of folks would wait, even amongst folks who'd mark it on their wishlist.

I killed hundreds of hours on the 360 version from the night it was released til a year later when I was forced to sell my 360 to pay for rent, so you can all expect for me to constantly be leveling my ranger pawn, Gabriel. I'll totally add you up, or you can add me too. I'd love to help level up all of your pawns. :)

I'm slightly miffed that there appears to be no phyiscal copy. Well looks like i'll be downloading 20GB with my dinky Australian internet....better feed the Koala really good to ensure faster speeds.

also 2 on my freindlist want this and one has it.

Note that pre-ordering games is stupid only applies to digital releases.
If you want some physical copy that actually makes sense since it might be more problematic to get it later.

The discount for me is that I would have had to buy the soundtrack separately if I didn't preorder. I wanted it anyway, even before it was announced as a preorder bonus.
