Anti-cheat
Now that the game comes to PC, what will stop someone from hiring random pawns, buff them with unlimited gold, end-game gear and whatever then release them?

Basically, what can I do to protect myself from CE children, other than offline mode? I suppose only renting or giving my pawn for rent to people I know is one way to save myself.

even on consoles it wasnt uncommon to see a pawn running around gran soren with high level gear at low levels. for example 2 days ago i saw a level 27 (which was my arisens level) running around with dwells in light and full abyssal armour. I picked the pawn up and threw him off a bridge into the river in the down town section of gran soren.

you dont have to hire pawns outfitted like that. in addition there are hidden penalties when using gear you aren't meant to have if you get it too early by cheating or whatever other means in the form of massive stamina drain (im talking like 1 or 2 swings and your exhausted cant move) and lowered effectiveness over all.

the good thing about the hire pawn screen is there is a robust filter you can apply to get the pawn you want and have it be legit at the same time. for example you could tell the game i want a lvl 21 mage pawn with the following skills and itll find only those that fit your criteria (upto like 30 or 40 per page in a list i think) you can then find the pawn you want and summon them from there.

as people have already stated its actually quite hard to gift equipment to a pawn and i dont think itll be possible for someone to alter your own pawns stats in your game seeing as how the games only really providing you with the template info of someone elses pawn.

for example i hire Pawn A from player A. pawn A is level 30 and has X gear at the time player A sends his pawns info to capcom servers. now until I dismiss pawn A they will not change gear or gain level until i send them away from my party and choose to re hire them ( thats the favourite feature in action you can keep track of pawns you like). So lets say a week from now I boot up and think "I really like Pawn A ill try to hire to them again" the server will request the info that player A has uploaded from their game and send me the template info. So nothing i can do effects player A's pawn as only Player A's progress can affect his Pawn and as Pawns are account bound I really doubt any tampering can happening.

finally one of the main benefits of the pawn system (getting a currency called rift crystals) isnt really required for doing well at the game. you cant buy amazing gear with them and a certain area later on has enemies drop RC as a reward so again dont worry about that.

Also that, cheating was easily done on Xbox 360 thanks to savegame editors, I do think the PS3 version was "pure" though outside of in-game stuff like carrot money glitch and ♥♥♥♥.

Ah so they can't decide to tweak his level or/and stats with CE and break him.
No. They can change their copy of your pawn which will dissapear after they disband it, but it won't affect the original (your main pawn) in any way.
Considering knowledge they learn from the person who rents them is applied to your pawn, I wonder if they can futz with those...

Money doesn't travel with pawns IIRC. The worst that can happen is they gift you with an item or items that are high value. Frankly, that can happen even with legit pawns. Weren't platinum rings worth like 64K at the NPC? You can even send up to 10 items with a pawn before items start turning into rocks. If there's something you don't want to make money from, just don't sell it. It all goes to storage anyway.

I wouldn't worry too much about that going by how it used to work on consoles it's more hassle to actually successfully trade and i doubt that anyone trying to screw with people would go through all that just for sh!t's and giggles.

Just read the first post here: http://www.neoseeker.com/forums/53989/t1737245-how-to-gift-items/

Edit: If your pawn receives equipment pieces you don't want you also can always just sell them. Even legit players will occasionally gift powerful equipment there's no way around that besides playing offline like you mentioned.
people do the stupidest ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ things tho man...

Was actually wondering this question myself.

I doubt it will be that rampant, because usually people that like messing with others do it for reactions, and they can't get your reaction by just dumping gear onto your pawn. It might be really common for a short while after people figure out how to do it, but they'll get bored without seeing your reactions.
