Worth playing before 2?
Do I have enough time to fully experience the game before 2 comes out? I understand theres a bunch of post game stuff and a true ending. Don't want to spend hours just to have 2 come out when I've not finished

Yeah it's true if you doh't play DD2 the second it launches it will delete itself from your library

good luck.

deepens on your free time It's not a long game if you want it to be since some of the content can be skipped, Just be sure to commit to a build since better gear is expensive late game without doing some of the quest for lots of gold can be exhaustive if you don't know what to do (but also because they're fetch quests).

whatever you do dont stick to one build your overall stats depend on what builds you picked

currently on an infinity run and i balanced 100 levels into warrior first then after doing so swapped to sorcerer and busted out the other 100 in the dlc my stats are therefore balanced to any playstyle

it's on discount and yes it's worth playing, one playthrough shouldn't take you a lot of time. one to two weeks if you're a slow player

I didn't understand much of the hype for DD2 until I went back to Dark Arisen

also, post game can be long or short depending on how much time you want to spend on it.

That is a valid point (although, Imo, the stats don't feel that substantial to me), but I mean because not all your gear will fit your vocation, so you should be careful what you spend on unless you choose to do fetch more grind quests for gold).

Edit: at the very least max out the vocation if you're going to switch.

I'm a strider and just got to the capital so it's best to max that before I go ranger like I'm planning?

You could do the main quest for sure. As for beating BitterBlack and the ER dragon online, idk. You could probably learn to beat the ER dragon but not the online version. It all takes alot of time and to 100% complete all the quests takes a long time too.

Not quite... The stat growth lowers significantly at level 100 and up. (see the wiki:
https://dragonsdogma.fandom.com/wiki/Stat_Growths
So leveling between 10 and 100 matters most.

In the grand scheme of things it does't matter as much with the dark arisen expansion out. You can switch to pick up augments in other classes to take advantage of some of the cool augments available but you will need to farm vocation points to unlock them and reach whatever level the augment unlocks at.

Some augments at high level in a vocation are really good, but results vary depending on what you are trying to do. A lot of physical melee or physical types will go access the augments that give bonuses to strength when equipped but they are found at high rank in certain vocations.

I would say early on It's easy to get level 4 or maybe 5 but above that you can wait until later so you don't overfarm and get bored of it. Later on in the game story you can access easier farming methods to unlock vocation augments faster.
It's always good to grab the augment that reduce damage, especially physical damage until later. Strider is also a very fun class to keep with, but I would also sneak a few augments from different vocations between levels.

There's no telling how 2 will turn out. 1 is a proven near masterpiece. It's cheaper and easier to run.

To fully experience...yes but you would need to look at hints/guides probably. For me the full experience is around the point where you only have a few achievements left or the game consumed your life force by a few hundred hours.
It's the loose equivalent of playing Skyrim without ever touching Oblivion... You totally can, but as an Elder Scrolls fan, that would be very odd, considering what Oblivion has to offer.

The question is, should you? Should you discover the lore, world, mechanics, culture, etc, of the original game for $5 so you can go into the second one an actual fan of the series, or should you go into it completely blind? Idk, should you?

Edit: Dragons Dogma 2 was revealed to not be a direct sequel, I believe, so...
