Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara Recommendation :)
When Dogma was relased on consoles, i have been thinking that i seen it somewhere....
In arcades!

Release date on wiki says 93 for Tower of Doom and 96 for Mystara. That is insane.
Many things that are in D&D is in Dogma. Check it out!

As I already pointed a couple of weeks ago when the game launched, the more I played Dragon's Dogma the more I convinced myself that this was probably supposed to be a licensed D&D game at some point, before some sudden change of plans in Capcom (maybe they didn't land the agreement?).

It's not "similar", it's not "close enough", it's pretty much pure Forgotten Realms' D&D 100%, just with any direct mention of the official setting removed and few minor tweaks here and there to the bestiary.

Can't believe I didn't see it before. I played D&D in arcades religiously. It really is like GTA3 was to the GTA series as far as the capcom D&D games.
How did this never dawn on me before?!

I agree and was thinking the same thing as thats one of my alltime favorites.

Its like they took SoM and made it 3-D with a healthy sprinkling of Monster Hunter.

Damn, now I can't stop thinking of this.
Too bad mage in Dragon's Dogma didn't get the phase shift skill sorcerer in D&D gets.
Way you no make an open world D&D ToD/SoM game, capcom?!

BTW, here is the game for anyone who never played it in arcades or on PC.
You won't get to see the sorcerer do much until 7:40 because in this game you really have to conserve your spells for the right moments.

Dragons Dogma is as close as it gets to real paper and pencil Dungeons & Dragons. Why I like it so much.

In fact an unbelievable amount of stuff today has derived from D&D.

Yeah, Dragon's Dogma(and the PS3/PS Vita exclusive Dragon's Crown) are both spiritual successors all things considered to the Shadow Over Mystara Dungeons and Dragons Capcom Beat'em Ups from the 90's. And I love it, all three are fantastic.
Good old memory. My pawn's moniker is named after that elf in this game.

Did you mean in theme or gameplay? Because it certainly doesn't play like it.

Theme, definitely. As someone who grew up with tabletop D&D, few games have come close to emulating what I always imagined its scenario to be like. Plenty of them emulated the playstyle, sometimes officially, but very few spurred my imagination the same way this one does. Way too many fantasy RPGs try to distinguish themselves in some way from D&D, while Dragon's Dogma feels a lot more like they tried everything to be as much like D&D as possible without getting into lawsuits. In a good way.

Our games must have been a lot different then. Mine usually consisted of interacting with the world (people and objects) more than fighting. I only ever had one DM though.
