Need advice regarding the vocations for my first playthrough
So like I said, I'm in my first playthrough and started as a fighter and created a strider pawn. Now I'm level 29 and maxed out the starter classes for me and my pawn. I'm planning to become a mystic knight with my main character, but I'd like to know if it's beneficial to go into mage first and max out that class as well before going into MK? I'd like my pawn to be a DD so what class would you suggest me putting him into - fighter, warrior or ranger?

its beneficial in a way to go through all classes to learn their augments. Those that are unlocked can be on all classes. So yes, there's benefit to maxing out all the vocations. you dont need to go through all of them to enjoy mystic knight to fullest tho

if you're min/maxing:

But you don't really need to. Just have fun in whatever vocation you want. And as stated from above, you may want to get different augments from different vocations.

Go with Strider pawn
Ok, so now I switched my strider pawn to warrior to get the +20%str boost. I will switch him back as soon as I reach rank 9. I also really like the fighter gameplay and I think thats what I want to play as the main character in the long run. Do you have any suggestions which augments from other vocations would be nice to have as a fighter?

Thanks, I'll switch into the mythic knight class for a while then.

try them all out id say, they all exel at different things. even one class might play quite a bit different depending on what weapon you pick, let alone skills. switching from time to time will keep your gameplay fresh and interesting since you tend to find mechanics and strategies with other classes that are only possible with that specific class/build.

Best advice I can give you is... don't worry about it.
Play what you want.

Yeah, I guess that's the best advice. I just played some western CRPGs like Icewind Dale or Pathfinder Wotr before, which can become extremely hard when making the wrong decisions. But from what I've seen so far this game doesn't seem to be too hard on normal difficulty.

That's exactly how every game with character bulding works.
The difference between RPGs like Pathfinder and action games like Dragon's Dogma is that more than enough depends on you yourself.

Now, there will always be ppl saying play what you want/how you want or whatever.
But be aware that these ppl cannot guarantee that you playing as you want will NOT get you in trouble. So as much as the game is perfectly clearable with any build or non-build you use, thare will be consequences to the way you play.

Not for your character, but for your pawn, I would suggest avoiding the Guardian inclination trait.
The main reason I say that is Guardian will make your pawn try to stay close to you at all times. Meaning they won't do as much range combat, or melee unless the enemy is very close. They'll even interrupt their own spells, just to stay within the range that Guardian says they should be.

It isn't a make-or-break type thing, though, this is purely my own preference. If you don't mind your pawn having it, that's fine too. I just like my pawns to wander around/go for range.

When in doubt, buy periapts and use 4 at once. Works like a charm
