i failed the symone escort quest and just lost the chance to get the gold idol

Not to worry. All the idol does is raise the NPCs affinity towards you and perhaps gets you a 10% discount when you buy things from them (except for the Black Cat). There are two missions later where NPC merchants ask for a gold idol but neither is a game breaker if you don't have the idol to give them. Any and all gear sold by merchants eventually becomes available as you move along in the game whether you complete the symone mission or not.

well what happened was i accidentally pressed the button to carry NPCs. i was jailed, and the game auto-saved lol

You do not get jail for carrying NPCs, it's throwing them that count as an attack.... put them down gently and you should be fine....
Failing symone escort quest (fournival daughter) will make you miss a gold idol.... though if you miss the quest, there's a forgery gold idol hidden in fournival manor (it disappear once you complete symone escort quest, it's probably some sort of consolation price since you wont be able to complete the quest before your next playtrough).

Not having the gold idol does limit the inventory of the shop keep you would give it to in a later quest... BUT-- what is the overall impact in reality? I gave the gold idol to the armorer/weapons guy. This resulted in me actually buying ONE weapon and ZERO new armors for either me or my main pawn. It was a weapon I could not otherwise access until a later stage of the game. BUT-- I can only upgrade it to two stars, whereas my former weapon was three stars, so it is really no improvement. At the end of the day, in my case, it didn't matter at all, so I wouldn't worry if you don't get it.

i can confirm that i was jailed for accidentally pressing the carry button on symone. maybe its a different case for NPCs that need to be escorted. maybe an attempt to carry them is also programmed to be an attack.

thanks for the info about the other gold idol. ill try to look for it later.
