The Brine
I really hope this gets taken out of DD2 when it comes out. I really hate it, it feels like a simple cop out from making basic swimming mechanics work. I mean, if the Brine only exists in the sea, I can understand that, but in this game the Brine exists in any "deep body of water", even if the water is a temporary body of water that can be drained out, like in the Watergod's Altar. The Brine is probably the most illogically stupid feature in this game.

I don't know, at least most of simplest organisms, which, I think, include carnivorous worms, driven by basic instincts, and their actions are determined solely by need for their existence. Why do they kill creatures, if not for food?

"For food" may be one of the answers - and doesn't mean that whatever animal kills for food it kills on a daily basis (eg drosera).
Killing may also be territorial (rhinos), accidental (shark vs. surfer), in defense of brood (boars) or for fun (cats, dolphins).

These are not simplest organisms.

Nvrmnd. I think people of Cassardis use brine to pickle cucumbers. Btw, no one saw single one in game.

Let's discuss about leaden globe and its impact on metagameplay.

if the brine was eating all and every things that get into water.... what would be the point of Cassardis.... I mean... in the lore it's a fisherman village, most inhabitants are fisher and there's fishes hanging on the beach....
Also the game itself, I forgot in which dialog, descriebe the brine as a curse that affect land creatures that try to get into deep waters rather than a "lifeform".
Saurian are obviously amphibians, so partly land partly aquatic creatures, excluding them from the effect of the curse.

I dont think this require an argument, it's just another form of invisible wall to prevent players and NPCs from going out of the game world boundaries. period.
At least one sane person here

I could go for it being played up as well, being actively malignant and whenever passing water seeing it shadowed watching you. Hearing it when grabbing fish, maybe even eventually seeing some of them though that often tends to lose mystique.
